Well thanks so much Jack and yes I got your private message too. I got complaints about it and a) I'm not Australian, and b) I don't have a lot of time to consult the Oxford dictionary, etc. to make rulings on posts. Sometimes I'm a little busy.

Looks like Java downloads the file with no user input. That sucks! So, am I to understand that if this happens, all you need to do is trash the downloaded file?

I got one yesterday. It downloaded very fast and decompressed the installer in seconds. I had tried to delete the download but I guess the mouse slipped and it double clicked it. Duh!

I deleted the download and the installer and nothing happened. More of an annoyance than anything else but foil hats never hurt.

After just writing that from my iPhone I re-read the link and realized I had no restarted my computer since that episode. I'm now on my G5 and did not see the message so it DOES NOT install unless you run the installer. Whew!

(Guess I'll have to continue to visit porn sites manually... LOL!).

You don't have to consult the Oxford dictionary - Google it in less than a minute. You got complaints about my usage of the word barrack? If people are so small-minded about that word then you might as well remove me from the board - I have no use to be around people that would complain about that.

Back to the topic, if one is using Safari, the best protection is to uncheck the "open "safe" files after downloading" preference. To this day I am still amazed that this option is checked by default.

Some people are just scum and will try any thing to rip you off.

This must be a variation on mallware that I've seen pop up on-screen. However when I see the Windows XP graphic o know to close the window/page ASAP so it doesn't begin installing. Or perhaps I unchecked that option in Safari. And yes, people who spend time coming upwith viruses are the lowest form of human being. We create music which is something positive and they create destructive programs. Nuff said.
