I didn't want to jump too quickly to conclusions (as I usually do and get in trouble for this)... but he did imply his old MachFive did not require an iLok, which has been proved to be a lie.
So the question would be, how did he manage to get his first version of MachFive to work WITHOUT an iLok?
No wonder he thinks it sucks now

I too gave him the benefit of the doubt, but the tone of the original post suggested he was trolling. Maybe we need a troll emoticon?
I purchased the MachFive2 upgrade (or crossgrade) and it came with an iLok key. No separate chip. Installation was rather easy.
He still hasn't explained exactly what his issue is?

The original MachFive (v1.0) shipped with an included iLok. So if he had been using "MachFive all these years" then he would already have had an iLok. But then proceeds to say that he "
bought a new iLok."
Unless he comes back and clarifies what he meant by this, I can only conclude that he has been running MachFive v 1.x for many years sans an iLok. Which would mean

Or we may think as he said a NEW iLok his old one broke and he was having a problem due to his old authorization being gone. Ilok does sell authorization insurance. There is always a problem understanding what the issue is when people rant and do not supply much information on what is going on. I must admit I do not know what one has to go through if this was the case. Or he could be a

I'm one of the first to jump on a

- when appropriate, but I don't get the sense that this guy is using an illegal copy. Read his post carefully: He bought a new iLok - that's all he says. I've been there and if you're old iLok is broken and you have to go thru the iLok website to transfer authorizations, it can be (and is) a royal PITA.
I'd be

as well and even though some comments are a bit over the top [ "...I'm a songwriter, not a dorked out code idiot..." comes to mind and is a bit insulting to the dorked out code idiots among us... BTW, I'm not one either] I understand his frustration all too well.
That said, and not being a dorked out code idiot but a dorked out composer

I did not find the 'maze' of iLok transfers all that difficult to complete in about 3 minutes online with the iLok site.
If the o/p is a bit calmer now and can ignore some of the accusations and post a more specific and sober account of his problem, maybe one of us dorked out MOTU idiots can be of assistance in getting him back in the un-dorked out songwriter mode?
...or not.

Have you gone to iLok.com and made an account and registered your iLok online? At iLok.com you can download licenses that vendors can put into your account and you can also see and verify what licenses are on your iLok. If you have a valid MachFive2 license on your iLok, it should work. Also, did you install the iLok extensions, etc. on your MacBook? You should download the iLok software from iLok.com and install on your MacBook first.

Another thing to consider that I don't think has been mentioned in regards to iLok :what browser's are being used?
I had tons of problems with iLok auth's when I used Firefox but no problems with Safari.

LOL... I love that phrase. Bill Gates was a "dorked out code idiot" once. I bet he employed a lot of guys who were the cool, jock football players in high school... LOL

One of my friends was coding for Gates in his early, early days. Not for pay, but stock options. She's a multi-millionaire now. I don't think she ever played for the girls football team, however...

Right... well I was trying to capture the general idea of a joke I think I heard once. It roughly goes like this: "Be nice to the brainy nerd kids in school, because more than likely one of them will be your boss someday."

P.S. I'm in San Diego. Been here long enough to remember when Qualcomm was in one little building. Anybody who was on the ground floor then is only working today because they'd be bored if they weren't.

I only get bored when I'm not working.

I got the joke, BTW. I just like to brag that I know my friend Megan... ☺

Yeah, I too am at my most productive when I'm busy. I think time just comes to mean a lot more than it does otherwise. Whenever I take a vacation and say to myself, "I really want to get X done on my time off," it never gets done. Yet, here I am now, working a full-time day job, gigging band, girlfriend, and churning out recordings! Ain't life grand?

Another old saying comes to mind -- never give work to someone who is not busy.
