thanks for the reply CharlzS!!
i really have never got into MIDI. not sure if maybe i should? i reallyy know nothing about MIDI.
all we do is record audio here. i have over the years thought it would be nice to get a drum machine? ithats MIDI correct?
anyway when i edit say a pan or volume ride, i just grap a point and move it, so i really am not seeing what the lasso is for still? enless it is for MIDI?
i can start a new thread and may get some input on some of these thing if possible?
what would be a threat title and location?
thanks

The Lasso Tool is very handy when selecting Soundbites, too, depending on the material. It's not just for MIDI.

so with soundbites, how would you select the lasso, then how would you select the soundbite? just click on it? what does it do?
i just dont get what the lasso does?
is there a video that covrs it? i did a google search for the dp 10 lasso tool and came up with this thread?

Here's a quick video using the pencil to draw and the lasso to select, dup and move multiple automation points. Maybe it'll give you a better idea of usage.

thanks so much!!
probably to old to be trying to learn this but i am trying:)
okay so the lasso was used to compy the automation the pencil tool wrote, it was copied and pasted elsewhere?
isn't that the same as just high lighting and command C then move the pointer click and command V?
so the pointer is just showing up as a lasso when your not looking at a wave file?
hope i got that?

I'm actually having this same issue. I am trying to pitch correct a note in a soundbite. I did this all the time before upgrading to 10.13. I deleted preferences, but no joy.
In Sequence Editor I switch the track to the "Pitch" layer, and I can see all of the blocks and which ones are out of tune, but instead of having the proper cursor to slide the pitch segments up or down, it stays a lasso tool and will not let me do pitch editing. I can select portions of the audio, but cannot actually edit the pitch algorithm, because the cursor stays as a lasso and doesn't allow me to make popup menu selections. "Any ideas?

i spent hrs last night and i could not get the lasso tool to do anything?
i just can not see what use it offers?
it placeed it over soundbite its a lasso i click on it nothing just a frustrating mess.
like imprting a wave file that ends up hidden and does not open in a track? WTF after a few hrs a buddy messaged me and said this was Fing barbaric. LOL maybe i am missing something but?
i am trying to learn this but i am aboout ready to toss in the towl sevral freinds kepp telling me this is not a good DAW for a engineer, as is not straight forward in the editng and gear more for musians doing cumputer based projects?
i dont know, i do know nothing make sense.
for example yersterday i drop markers on a wave file and the spent countles hrs rtying to figure out how to get it to snap to a marker? what is that some complicated? open the marker window selct click and ther but no it does not work? what magic trick is requried it get that to work? not that it matters i still dont understand what the lasso is for or at least it does not do what i was thinking it would?
grr NOT loving my DAW

In the mini menu for the track (three horizontal bars) see if Pitch is checked. If not, select it. That should work. This gets deselected sometimes and I have no idea why.

This is how I do it.
First, make sure you're in the Sequence editor.
Your track size needs to be large enough ("Medium" or larger) that the colored title bar appears at the top of the soundbite.
Under the title of the track, the first menu should read "Soundbites." There's an option for "Stretch," but that doesn't work for this method.
In the popup menu for the track (the downward triangle at the far right of the title box), make sure that "Stretch" is enabled (it should have a check-mark by it).
Select your soundbite. Move your cursor to the top right end of the sound bite, and it should turn into a hand. Drag the end of the soundbite left or right and it will stretch.
I also use an alternate numeric technique: Select the sound bite. Under "Region" select "Scale Time." You can enter the percentage by which you want to scale the soundbite, or you can also enter the time value where you want the stretched soundbite to end and it will calculate the stretch percentage.

I only skimmed this thread so maybe I missed it... but nobody seems to have mentioned using the tools menu to get the tool you want.
Shortcut to bring it up is Shift-O

The tools palette doesn't have the various "hand" tools on it. The tools for editing pitches and soundbite edges are supposed to appear automatically when appropriate, when you have the generic pointer tool selected and are over an appropriate object. So when they DON'T appear there's not much you can do.
