DP7.2 Working Well

Post by James Steele »

How much is VE Pro anyway. I think they made a PPC compatible server didn't they? I have a G5 collecting dust.

Can't remember.. I want to say it was $250ish? It was under 300 for sure, totally worth it. It also came with a (smallish) Vienna Library, just the essentials, but usable. Yeah, I think think it's PPC compatible.. log onto the VE site and find out for sure.

The great thing is, the latency is very low, probably the best solution out there for a slave machine.

Bidule could be good too.

Whichever one you choose, the bulk of the work is deciding on and building a template of essential instruments that you always want to have instant access to.

VEPro is now working for me on 7.2 as well as Vienna Suite.

Just don't launch VEPro first on your main computer then launch DP 7.2. DP crashes for me every time. VEPro works great as an AU plug within DP running libraries on other computers.

James,

My buddy is using VE pro with his old G5. He says it isn't officially suported but it works well.

Crash once in awhile is all - in frequent.

From what I have read DP7 is working much better on an Intel. On my old G4 I could run a few Vi's and some effects at best, on my Pro I have yet to hit a limit.

The only plugs I run are Duende. No VIs here. Yeah, if you ran alot of plugs, VIs, I'm certain a G4 isn't the best performance option

Just downloaded it yesterday after getting the MOTU e-newsletter about it. Based on 7.12, I'm cautiously optimistic about it, especially since I begin scoring my first feature film in DP since 5.13 this week. The MIDI and pre-gen for VIs are gonna be crucial to my success, but, so far, I've had next to zero problems with either in 7.x. I'll let you all know how it goes ...

You do realise there is Auto save which you can set in your preferences?
