I mean, who would want that behavior anyway? And why? Just to be more "accurate"?

Yes, to be more accurate. Do you want an optical compressor or not? If you want an optical compressor, the warm up/decay functions are part of the "sound".

If you pick up a violin and can't play it, do you conclude that violins are useless? A better approach may be to learn what it does and how to use it. At least then if you don't use it, that will be because you don't need what it does.

The Leveler is an amazing processor. I find myself using it more and more in my mixes. I put it on kick, snare, guitars, and vocals. Back in my analog days I would have killed for this quality of processing, especially considering that I run it on many tracks at the same time.

I'm using an UltraLite mk3 for gigging. I'm running my guitar and an MS2000 synth through Levelers on the the UltraLite inputs. You can't get that sound with a dynamics based compressor.

The MW Leveler is as close to the real thing as you can get with software. Personally I am glad for that.
It's NOT that I don't want to use it or I don't want to learn how to use it.
All I'm saying is that it's a great plug-in, but I haven't met one person who likes the warm-up "feature"...

I just wish it were like the other emulations by the competition. Just set it the way you want it and forget about it. It will always sound the way it was left.

Accuracy is great. In this case it may be a little over the top.
Accuracy should never be more important than practicality, IMO.

Couldn't you guys make having that behavior be OPTIONAL??
This way everyone would be very happy :)

Well I agree with this, and it seems I might be in the minority.

This plugin makes me smile and not many do and it sounds so fantastic I couldn't ever think of not having it to use.

Gentle compression has very little quirks and heavy compression (even though I don't use it all that often) I just save the state, easy.

I love it because it is slightly random, just like my vintage pedal collection, which makes it/them very creative and edgy. We have become very safe in this digital world and this plugin removes that slightly plus it's one of the best plugins I've ever used, and the best sounding LA-2A out of all the ones I've used.

Dave, with all due respect, I've said this before and I'll say it again. There is a problem with the Leveler that is NOT related to the warm up issue.

It's like this. Sometimes the plug just stops working altogether. The work-around is simple. Open the plugin window, close it. All will work fine until the next time it decides to quit. I have just come to accept that once in a great while it will quit and I'll have to do the open/close thing. I don't doubt that some of the problems people are having is misunderstanding the warm-up behavior, but since it first came out I have seen this OTHER intermittent problem, and I believe this is what SOME folks are experiencing.

The symptom (when you have a fair amount of makeup gain) is that the track suddenly becomes very quiet, just as if the plugin were bypassed. I believe this is what many have experienced. They save a project and when they re-open it Leveler is not working. They think a setting has changed when in fact Leveler is doing nothing. Simply opening the window gets it going again. Trust me on this. I love this plug and use it all the time, but once in a while it just quits.

This has been happening to me with the MAS version of Speakerphone, lately. Just changing the preset to another and back again brings the sound back. Perhaps there is a problem with the way DP is handling some MAS plugins?
