The only time you actually received the serial number was when you purchased DP. It does not appear in the back of any manuals and does NOT come with upgrades. I once had to write MOTU to get my serial number, having temporarily misplaced the piece of paper that had it written on it. Now I keep them very safely and conveniently stored, along with key-codes and other info.

It is really cool that they store those for us now. It used to be so hard to get any information from them when there was a problem. Or, if you could get it, it would take time. They wouldn't give out sensitive information over the phone; only by mail. It's still hard for me to trust that it's going to be there online when I go there, but so far it's never failed, so I'm starting to warm up to it and trust it. Nice going, MOTU! (you too, Radiogal! Thanks for reminding us about the personal info on-site.)

it clearly states - key code - back of manual.

obviously I dont want to put my keycode on the internet.. but it accepts it..

then I get this -

when trying to do anything.. ( yes I did as above - ie removed autho's and made read write everyone.. )

I have totally uninstalled 7.02 - then 7.01 in that order then re - install..

cant get past the error message :(

Serial number and key code are two different things.

My DP6 KEYCODE starts with DP600 and continues with something akin to this: xxxxx-xxxxx.

My DP6 SERIAL number looks akin to this: DPXXxxxxxx.

As long as that distinction has been established, I would contact MOTU EYE-mediately if putting in the KEYCODE doesn't do the trick.

I would also inquire about the characters where they might include "O" vs "0", the former of which being a letter in caps and the latter of which being a numeral.

MOTU may find that they'll need to send you a new disc and a new KEYCODE. It's not out of the question that something legitimately just don't woyk. [sic]

PS:
Martian, you're good with graphics! LOL! I've often characterized error messages as "yelling at me"!! Thanks for the chuckle.

OOOOOOOOOOO

Doh!!!

not 00000000

hey frodo thanks for the sunday wake up!! :D

( why didnt it just NOT "accept" an invalid key code ....

I mean that would make me think I had misread - ( left the BRICK i mean manual in studio - at home on laptap.. wrote the code in chequebook...

instead of getting led to believe the code has been accepted and getting some other esoteric error... ( hey its DP - it takes orders from a mythical unicorn - I SHOULD have known

there's communicating and mis communication,,, then there's mystic motu...

Thanks for your tips
Mike from Motu Tech solved the problem by giving me this solution:
" Select the Mac HD and go to File > Get Info. Under Sharing and Permissions, set all fields to Read and Write. Next, close the Get Info window, insert the DP 7 installer in your optical drive and launch the application. Does it authorize properly ? "
yes that worked !!
!
Thanks Mike !!!!!
This is what finally worked for me as well. The auth screen kept popping up over and over. Deleted the invisible auth files from previous versions and set the permissions manual via the Get Info window.
