Okay. Enough. That's what I hate about this place and most of the pinheads in it. You say anything that is outside the realm of their own personal experience and you get called a liar, full of ••••, incompetent at running your own system.....

I won't bother running down the list of my own qualifications, you pontificating, self righteous losers in need of a life. I'd be amazed at any of you having much of a social life with the way you handle yourselves here. Must feel great to know you can come here and tell everyone they are ****ing retards.

Peace

Whoa...

C'mon, we're all here to exhange ideas on how to get DP up and running to the best of our ability and getting the most outta our systems right?

Amplidood: can you tell me how you went back to 10.3.4? I'm running a PB G4 1G with 1GRam and I am trying to see how to optimize my system.

So I'm perfectly clear.
I'm not saying you're full of •••• I'm saying the statement
That is until a friend of mine with some insider hookups informed me that Apple is no longer testing X on G4's
sounds ridiculous.
My question to your friend with the insider hookups would be
this:
Why is Apple then building Macmini G4 computers, laptop G4
computers.
What operating system are they using to test these computers
with?
If these questions could be satisfactorily answered then fine.
You can be as pissed off all you want, but If I posted something
like that, then I'd expect someone would call me on it.
This is by no means a personal attack on you (and I'm certainly
not calling you a retard)

OK, but to sdemott,

for those of us new to computer up-keep, how do we learn about the needs of our computers? Is there an OS book that discusses these issues? Why do i need to repare permissions?

Any ideas?

your thoughts are appreciated!

That;s an impressive gig.

I have a question for you. How many devices should one expect from a UAD-1 with 50 tracks of 96K audio a few virtual synths and abou 50 various MOTU plugs?

Also run SCSI 15k spin 320 drives on the PCI buss.

I'm getting clipping with anything more than 2 or 3 1176s.
Meter at 50%

Could the scsi reduce my throughput that far alone?
I have no experience with the UAD stuff - so I really can't say. But if you want to test, try removing the UAD stuff and see if you still get clipping. At least you'll know if the problem is part of something else before you begin trouble shooting the UAD situation

I've seen books about UNIX for Mac user (similar to the "Dummies" books) in the local book stores. I'd start there.

Also, there are a lot of UNIX tutorials online - just Google and start there (it''s free).

Definately a good start - I am contemplating writing a short article for my web site and getting very detailed. The biggest obstacle for this is time.

Peace? That post is meant to be "peaceful"? Wow. I thought the Sonar forum was getting bad, but this takes the cake. Why do you feel the need to come down to that level?

I guess I have to learn the boundries of this forum.

Anyway...

Apple is still testing, and supporting G4 (and some G3) systems with their OSs. My Pismo powerbook was still supported in 10.3 and it's rock solid actually. It may not be in 10.4 (I have not checked),

Apple is more like Sun Microsystems, IBM and HP's server divisions than it is like Microsoft- it's not just a software company, they own the hardware too.

Kindly consider that the problems you were experiencing were due to a faulty app, driver, or setting that was wiped clean by your re-install. You may actually have a hardware problem.

Quite often, problems of this nature are indicitive of a bigger problem lurking in the dark behind the shiny aqua shell.

Anyway I'd seriously have your 'source' at Apple doublecheck his information, it sounds a little atypical of Apple in the past.

I am becoming more and mor familiar with using Linux, which is basically a flavor of UNIX. I have to say that Apple did a pretty decnt work at screwing things that work well in UNIX.

My feeling is that Apple is trying to keep OS X as much of a close system as possible even though UNIX is essentially a wide open platform. BY doing so, Apple messed up things that should be a bit straight forward to Linux users. Just go to the terminal windows and type a few command lines.

I wish they made DP for Linux, I'd go for it without the slightest doubt.
