You are right about DP's busses. But what about VI's multi outs. If I created a clipping of a VI with some patches loaded and each goes out from it's own output into audio tracks with the VI's inputs - why shouldn't such a set up be automatically activated? How or what could possibly go wrong?
Hmmmmm.... You're right. I've had those issues regarding VIs.
But I think it's solvable. For instance, with Stylus RMX, if I have a clipping that includes all the MIDI assignments (for Stylus' 8 MIDI channels), along with 8 aux tracks and 8 audio tracks, DP DOES recognize the aux and audio tracks and sets them accordingly. I think the issue is with the MIDI assignments. But if I recall correctly, by removing the word "copy" from the MIDI tracks (once they have been dragged into the sequence) solves the problem.
It's something like that. Or clicking in the bundles' tiles... or maybe I deleted the VI track and created a new one. I can almost swear I've worked it out, but I don't remember precisely how
At any rate, if there's no easy way to work around this, then yes, I do agree with you: MOTU should fix it.

How about giving us the option of replacing the source soundbite/file with the bounced soundbite/file, without creating a new track at all?
Sometimes, all I want to do is consolidate soundbites into a single track where they are, without any plugs or processing.

Number two... DP has got to have a new GUI. The new GUI in 6 just doesn't cut it for those of us that use this thing day in and day out to make a living. I have been staring at DP 3,4,5 for years with not much complaint in this area, but I have to say that 6 is no good. The faders need to lose the sled they sit in, the blue meters can barely be seen, the pan knobs with that additive led ring is lame and I've never understood those, the pan knob should have one point of light to show where it's pointed, the color scheme, or lack thereof, is in need of a complete overhaul, need an option for the waveforms to be black in the Sequence Editor, etc, etc, etc.... It looks as though the GUI was an afterthought and not completed. Regardless, if I am going to be staring at this program for years more to come... they need to update the GUI QUICKLY! And no, the DarkMod isn't quite what I want either, it goes too far the other way, but it's better than Motu's attempt.
As others have stated, I look at the new Pro Tools GUI and want that badly. It is near perfect in it's beauty, simplicity and form.
Here are a couple more that bug the heck out of me and for the life of me I don't know why they don't fix these items... Version after Version keeps coming out with no change to these annoying items...
1) PLEASE give us the option of having new tracks default with their buss send volumes to off!
2) PLEASE give us the option to select multiple tracks and change their bus sends all at once (both outputs and volumes). Example, select ten tracks and change all of the first send outputs to bus 1. Having to change each one individually is a complete time waster. Yes, I know you can group the send volume knobs, but not the outputs.
3) BETTER THAN THE FIRST TWO, give us the ability to save a channel strip as a default so anytime we create a new track, it would have all those elements assigned already (bus sends, bus levels, inserts, etc...)
4) PLEASE make it so when you have the mixer open as a second window, it resizes properly. Example, when you have the mixer open outside of a consolidated window (a second monitor perhaps), anytime you pop open the Track Selector window, the mixer resizes to fit the Track Selector. But when you close the Track Selector window, the mixer window becomes smaller instead of spreading back out to fit the space.
5) PLEASE change the rewind button functionality in DP so as you keep hitting rewind, it keeps rewinding faster and faster. Rewinding and Fast Forwarding in DP are painfully SLOW if you use the built in transport. This would also need to apply to control surfaces so as you hit their transport buttons, it would work the same way.
6) Did I mention stability?

I hate to beat this same old horse, but I have spent the last couple days refreshing my Logic know-how. I need an app that makes sense CPU-wise and is at least somewhat stable. Logic isn't the end-all in that department, I know, but it is working so much better than DP right now for me.
I am very disappointed with 6.02. My first couple of projects in 6.02 had less efficient CPU usage and crashed more than 6.01. On two different systems--one a fresh install. And, I have been using only one audio driver: the MOTU PCI-424 with two 2408mkIII's attached.
A few oddities I can handle (text lablels a bit screwy, bundle channels showing up a bit wierd, or a few gui issues, etc.). But on a tight overnight deadline, I can't afford to be restarting DP or the whole computer over and over.
Sorry for the rant. I really, really want MOTU to get DP right. I started on Performer back in the day, and the workflow just sits right with me. But right now DP isn't cutting it well enough for me to feel good about using it.
I'm one step closer to turning from DP completely and never coming back. Right now, the only thing keeping me from uninstalling it completely are the video/marker/find tempo features.
The next version will need to be rock solid for me to rely on it for the bread and butter.

DP is pretty stable; it reliably crashes on certain VIs every time.
The GUI is a big project and no doubt there are many differing opinions on just how it should be implemented. The key there (IMO) is OPTIONS; we should be able to essentially decide more visual aspects for ourselves. The Control Panel window new features are a start. Fun, but I'd rather have more control over text v background and font sizes.
Obviously an app that doesn't crash often and functions as planned (especially when you need it to) is critical. I agree - restarting every few minutes gets old fast! So does waiting for VIs and plugins to "catchup" (or for DP to capitulate.)

I think MOTU has been playing catch-up with the rest of the DAWs.
I agree they should concentrate on cleaning up ALL the bugs before implementing more features. The thing is that they have to hurry, because they are behind one cycle. IOW, if they get rid of all the bugs in the next version (say DP 6.3), they would have to immediately start thinking about new features for DP 6.5. Otherwise, they will never lead with innovation... they will keep playing catch-up.
Michael... that is not you... IS IT????

- improved cpu efficiency with vi's
- visible buffer size readout and selection
And another suggestion I saw someone talk about on here one time - an FX/VI dock of some sort. I think this is a great idea and would make getting to the plugins faster and deal with the workflow impedance of having to constantly be opening and closing windows. You could hit a keyboard shortcut and a dock showing all your fx and vi's comes up, scroll through with arrow keys and hit enter for quick selection without the mouse. To lessen the opening and closing of individual windows there could be some sort of fx/vi shell (like reason's screen) so that you could stack the one's you want showing in one window (I know, they're all different sizes), which you could then open and close, making it easier to quickly view and change parameters of several fx or vi plugins at once.
