EXACTLY!

At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is What our music sounds like. Is it good music?

The most a DAW, ANY DAW, can do for us, is not getting in the way of our creativity, and give us the tools needed to realize whatever we hear inside our heads.
And I'd say DP does a pretty excellent job in that department.
Mac Mini Server i7 2.66 GHs/16 GB RAM / OSX 10.14 / DP 9.52
Tascam DM-24, MOTU Track 16, all Spectrasonics' stuff,
Vienna Instruments SUPER PACKAGE, Waves Mercury, slaved iMac and Mac Minis running VEP 7, etc.

This is my greatest obstacle - to have a good pace going and be ground to a halt, whether by a freeze, and hang, a hanging MIDI note, an unreliable plugin or routing scheme, or any number of complaints that abound in ALL forums.

There's a lot to be said for beating on a hollow log with a stick. Especially when there's dancing, and fermented fruit beverages to be had. :D
Success is just one more plugin away! And happiness is as close as your next upgrade.

Agreed. I've been there. When the stupid machine or software give you scheisse, it is one of the most unnerving and annoying things that can happen. Add ridiculous deadlines and time pressure to the equation, and it's heart attack time :)

Luckily, I'm blessed with a ROCK SOLID system now, which is the only reason I still use Panther and DP 4.61
As tempting as it is, I've resisted upgrading OS and DP for that very same reason. Maybe I'll do it when they release DP 6.13... but then again, that resembles the last part of your signature very dangerously

I felt the same way for a long time about using older versions of DP and an older version of OS X. But, I'm happy to report that the same rock solid stability I once enjoyed with 10.3.9 + DP 4.61 has now been surpassed by 10.4.11 + DP 5.13. Also, I've never experienced the beach ball phenomenon I've read about here. I'm using a G5 2.7GHz with an RME HDSP9632 card and I'm amazed by how many plug-ins both FX and instruments that this old klunker will run without glitching.

It all started as an experiment when I removed my startup drive that contained the older versions of DP/OS X. Then, I replaced it with a new drive for the experiment to test my newer copy of DP 5.13. I haven't looked back since. The original drive was backed up and is now used for samples.
G5 2.7GHz | 8GB RAM | RME HDSP9632 | DP 5.13 | OS X 10.4.11 | MTP AV | + Mac Book Pro 2.4GHz (Santa Rosa) | Ozone | DP 7.0.1 | OS X 10.6.2

The secret to your success is obviously in your ability to say "when!" and not keep getting pushed ahead into uncharted waters. You're probably happy with features that work as advertised while I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by too many features while flaws remain in the fundamental functioning. [But I'm cheating on DP at the moment - having a new digital affair.]
