Re: Anyone using DP6 on a PPC G5?
Thought I would add my 2cents to this thread, because like James, I bailed and went backwards. I didn't take off Leopard though, so I'm still using Dp5.13 on my G5 quad ppc. Most of the posts hear cover all of the issues, but I have noticed one big difference between Leopard and Tiger that directly affects how i work in my studio. Since upgrading to Leopard, the fan noise is sooooooo noticeably louder. Even when I boot up and have nothing running - it is still humming with fan noise. It never did this under Tiger - unless I was pushing DP super hard. I've sort of written myself into a corner, and can't afford to go backwards to Tiger now. Too many plugins, presets, and things already working well.

I should add that since removing one particular AU plugin, DP 6.01 has been a lot more stable for me ... so far ... knock on unicorn horn....Babz wrote:I'm using DP 6.01 on a G5 2x2 w/ Tiger (10.4.11) and it runs fine, but I haven't tried any super heavy-duty projects yet. I'm still experimenting and learning my way around. I does seem more crashy than 5.13 for me, even with on the few basic tests I've tried so far. Never had any crashes w/ 5.13. I've had 3 crashes with DP 6 so far. Save often. Keep DP 5 handy.FWIW, etc.

Can you tell us which one, or is it a secret?

Success is just one more plugin away! And happiness is as close as your next upgrade.

Been wanting to upgrade myself (just to DP6, not to OSX 10.5), so interesting topic to me. What are the VI's that aren't working for people in DP 6? I use Stylus RMX, Drumcore and Sonic Synth 2. Also, how do uad 1 cards and powercore pci perform with DP 6 and Tiger 10.4.11?

The plugs that you mentioned are working fine in DP 6.01 and Tiger on G5 machines. (EDIT: I don't own Sonic Synth 2... so I can't say for positive there, but I own the others.) I'm using this setup now. I only went throught the Leopard -> Tiger downgrade hell because ever since DP 6.0 the NI VIs I owned were broken, specifically FM7, FM8 (which I bought trying to FIX my issues with FM7), and Kontakt Player 2. I'm okay now.KELLOG wrote:Been wanting to upgrade myself (just to DP6, not to OSX 10.5), so interesting topic to me. What are the VI's that aren't working for people in DP 6? I haven't wanted to go back to DP 5.13 though. If I could give any one reason for me personally staying with DP6, it is the new Comp Tool. It seriously saves me HOURS of work. I track my own vocals and I can't really listen critically to myself during tracking, so I tend to just track 5 or 6 takes and then build a comp from the various takes. This was unbelievably tedious in 5.13 and time consuming. In DP 6.01's it's almost a joy. It's so quick that I get better results because I have time to experiment more because I'm thinking about how much time it will take to audition a different idea.

Thanks James for the detailed info. I think I recall you've had a dance w/powercore in the past too. Are you using it or UAD 1 in your setup?

Re: Anyone using DP6 on a PPC G5?
hey James,
I was trying to figure out a comparable way to comp to the way I do it in Pro Tools (I don't comp the same in DP). I'm not sure how you do it but I figured this out;
I made a comp track above the take tracks. In the commands list (selection commands) there is a command "move selection up" and "move selection down". I changed them to the up and down arrow to make them easier. So, on take1 I swipe the amount I want with the I-Beam tool, hit copy, up arrow, paste. Now that piece is in the comp. Next piece take3, swipe, copy, up arrow 3 times, paste. Etc. Now you're making a comp without actually moving any audio, which is what you want.
In Pro Tools this is very slightly easier but it's the same idea and doesn't seem that much harder to me than the comp tool idea (which I haven't actually used).
I'm sorry if this is blatantly obvious and you're already doing it.
