Yep, I'm using Logic Studio (Pro) 8.
It's mainly the quality of the instruments I prefer in DP so far. If I compare Bassline or Modulo to their near-equivalents in Logic, I prefer the DP synths. And Nanosampler is just so much fun - so quick and easy after the maddening EXS24.
There aren't as many as Logic (and I do miss Sculpture, great softsynth) but what there are sound more... there. More dynamic and richer.
That sounds vague, I know and the whole thing could be in my head. But, as a songwriter, if a piece of gear makes me feel good, that's a great help.

There´s something to learn and to work different in DP (I´ve read the manual at least 2 times and I think that´s important). DP has in my opinion a more time-oriented workflow than Logic´s object-oriented. But time is what music lives from, isn´t it ? Objects are something for photoshop-freaks

Thanks for the info, tonwurm!
Yep, I've skim-read the manual and now I'm going through it properly. I'm prepared to have it next to me this first few months of transition.
DP is sooo huge. But, I managed to get into the Environment stuff in Logic, which scares most people, so I'll just apply myself to some deep study. And nicking tips off here, of course.

After you read the first 400 pages of the manual or so it becomes very easy to figure out most of the stuff. DP is quite consistent in the workflow, which I really appreciate.
I'm on my second read so far, going through and executing every function as I read it.
I'm a manual addict

I guess , it is a matter of taste ! I do not like the DP instruments at all .
I do prefer the LOGIC ones .
But I do agree 100% about the fact that DP makes more sense in regard to its interface .
I wish I could have DigitlaPerformer 8 wich is including the actual DP 5.13
look and inteface plus the LOGIC 8 Vi's and loops features . -)

It's funny how we all are, I am a long time DP user that now uses Logic as well. I like things in BOTH programs very much, and use them for different things.
In DP, I use it when I am doing audio editing. Like film audio. I can do 50+ tracks of an hour and a half movie and have NO problem with automation in DP. Cannot do that in Logic (although I think DP6 has a memory leak. I turn off more than a few undos and it still keeps eating more memory as I edit until it maxes out at 4G)
I write a lot of synth pop and I prefer to actually write it in Logic. Logic has a more efficient VI system in terms of system resources. I also like the MIDI region implementation and coloring MUCH better as I use the colors of regions for easy identification of parts or similar phrases I have moved to multiple tracks. The multipass cycle record for the MIDI is AWESOME for me. Also, I think the built in synths sound MUCH BETTER than the DP ones. I use sculpture all the time.
That said, there are things in DP I think are superior.
ProVerb does sound better than Space Designer, I will agree. However, I bought altiverb and it sounds better than both of those
Masterworks EQ works GREAT. No comparison to me in terms of non-coloration EQ work.
Pattern gate has no equivalent in Logic. It works awesome. I am writing one for Logic, but nevertheless, I love using the pattern gate. For now I use CamelSpace to do some gating, but doesn't sound as good to me.
Logic also has Delay Designer which is AWESOME.
So, I end up using them both, so I can get the best of both worlds!
To make it worse, I am getting ready to buy Abeleton Live because I am putting together a live show that is very much in the style of 'Underworld' (Hit song Born Slippy) and cannot see doing what I need to do with MIDI loops in Logic OR DP.
I will say this too, for live shows, I would ABSOLUTELY use DP over logic. I've performed many times with DP running and NEVER had an incident. I do not trust Logic that much, and having no chunks, it's a pain in the neck and requires 3rd party software to switch songs easily.
So welcome!

Yep, yep. It's all subjective. After all, it is music.

Cheers, mate!
I know I should have read the manual before starting. But I wanted to leap in, see how easy it was. It reassures me that I'm not having to refer to it that much for the basics. (Of course, I'm probably missing loads of extra features and shortcuts.)
I'll certainly be telling Logic-using mates to check out the new DP. There's a lot of fear in certain circles towards DP which I think is un-warranted.

Oh yeah, I totally agree! Besides, I've invested far too much in Logic upgrades since version 3 to set fire to it and then push it off a cliff.
I will still be using it for Sculpture and certain other things. Same as I'll probably still be using Waveburner for CD mastering.
To be honest, I'll use whatever works. Logic, DP, Renoise, Reaper, Numerology, Reason. Every bit of kit brings a different approach.
And I still love my DPS24mkII as well...

Aramis-Have you thought of (while sequencing in DP) getting Logic instruments through Mainstage via IAC and Soundflower or Jack (or even going out and back in external interfaces)? That could get the instruments- it would be interesting as to whether Logic's more efficient VI's make up for any extra CPU hit having two applications open might cause.
And for loops- rewire Live? though doing both Live and Mainstage might tax some CPU's.

MIDI cycle recording would be nice- start from scratch and get something close to what one wants (trying a lot of ideas in the meantime) before the editing even begins. Is there any way to make logic play advance each take in a loop for listening. That can be done with audio takes in DP using a MIDI track triggering a MIDI event for the command "advance take".
For hours of listeing to large numbers of takes it's much easier to not have to manually switch takes each playback (especially for short sections).
For power hungy users there is another possible attraction to Logic:
Have any of you Logic users tried linking two computers via ethernet to get more plugin power? How reliably does that work? Are there delay problems with the second computer's plugins? Does Latency compensation seamlessly cover those?
Or is someone able to consistantly do sessions on DP on their laptop that typcially have 40 audio tracks, 8 multitimbral VI's (Kontakt, Ethno, RA, Miroslav PHilharmonik, FM7, PRO 53, Trilogy) 40 URS double precision EQ's, 25 Double precision COmpressors, 2 convolution and 4 highquality reverbs, 4 sepearte delays, 3 time based/pitch shirt plug's, and 2 buss mastering EQ, Compression, in a sequence full of edits and tempo change every beat.
Don't think DP can reliably do that on a macbook pro using firewire drives.
If Logic could with 2 macbook pro's without problems it might be an alternative to a big desktop plus dsp card setup., so any insight would be welcomed.

What, White town as in that seminal 90's track 'Your Woman'?
Well blow me down. I loved that track!! And you're in Derby too (where I work -Eurocom)! AND now using DP!
Brilliant. Welcome Jyoti!

Jyoti, a little advice for you since you're skipping the manual. Open the COMMANDS window (Shift-L). Notice that it's laid out in sections. You can close the ones you don't need to get through it faster. I recommend closing the section with fonts for Quickscribe. Then PRINT IT OUT. Print the entire window. It may take as many as 20 or 30 pages. Also, print a PDF of it. (in OSX, you can turn any print job into a PDF by choosing the little drop-down menu in the bottom-left of the Print Dialog. Pull it down to "Save as PDF" and the rest is a no-brainer.) Also, I should mention that searching for something in the PDF is many times easier than searching for it in DP. Preview's search feature is much more advanced.
The printed version of the Commands Window, on paper, can save you years of wrong turns. I actually make little index tabs out of post-it note paper, and fold them over to grip both sides of the paper for strength. I index all the important sections of the COMMANDS WINDOW that I need to refer to. Of course, it can be a lot faster to find things by searching in the window itself, but until you know what all is there, you don't even know what to search for. Also, the printed version gives you a record of any changes you make -- applying your own commands to certain actions for greater convenience or fancy workflows. Seriously, the Commands window is your friend, and printing it out is the fastest way to become familiar with it.
Once you've done that, many of the tips in the tips sheet will make more sense to you.

Hello !
Yes , since my begining of using DP 3 , I tought about this . It does work but there is too many things that we miss doing so , instead of being in the same application . I do not like it anyway .
I even have all the adat audio interfaces to do so .
I like to keep my setup as simple as possible .
One day , I may use the mainstage with DP will see !

As far as VI set-ups, you can make clippings of your individual instrument setups, than just drag and drop, you'll have them all on hand. Clipping are a great feature, seldom mentioned ........
