Aside from your problem, Fmiguelez, is the problem of MIDI tracks not auto-returning. Huge waste of time in mixing, IMO. MOTU tech support confirmed the problem, but to date they haven't fixed it.
This problem would be multiplied if you automated via a master MIDI fader the way Dwetmaster was suggesting.
Is there such a thing as "MIDI Busing" in DP???

If I understand your workflow right, I accomplish the same thing with Device Groups. I'll make a new Device Group that goes to all destinations for Strings, for example. Then I make a new MIDI track (String Dynamics), assign its output to the Strings Device Group and automate away.
If I don't understand your workflow right, just ignore me!

Hi,
Another way to do this, if you use a sampler like Mach 5 II or Kontakt 3, is to output groups of instrument presets or even ALL your instruments to a specific bus. The bus will be your "Master fader" for the group.
That way you still have individual control on instruments but the overall volume can be controlled using the bus fader.
BTW, in most of my orchestrations, I use a Kontakt Bank or M5 II layers & rules to create instruments with different expressions & articulations. When you use this technic, all the instrument articulations are routed to 1 MIDI channel, but you still have control & can automate each instrument preset.
So you don't end up with hundreds of MIDI tracks...

but is the problem with this method, in fact with any MIDI mixing method, not that if you want all the tracks just to fade down at the end, for example, if you fade with MIDI in the middle of a long note, for example, with some samples this won't fade the note down - it only fades the start velocity of the note. So in order for it to work, you would actually need to fade the synth itself?Sure, I do this all the time when I want to control all my strings or my brass expression at the same time.
Enable IAC Driver in A/M Setup
Put DP in MIDI Multi-Record Mode
Make a master MIDI track and assign its output to a IAC channel
Assign all of your controlled MIDI track's input to the IAC channel.
Record-Enable the Controlled MIDI Tracks
Now EVERYTHING you do with the Master MIDI channel is mirrored on all the other controlled tracks.
Note that if you have notes or other MIDI information playing in individual controlled tracks it will still play be played back.

you don't NEED 2 computers. I don't run 2 at the mo, but will be later on this year, once ruddy spectrasonics get their stuff together.FMiguelez wrote:
Or maybe I just need the new VSL... Pronto!
it's lipsmackingly wonderful.
Yeah, rub it in
Of course, then I'd also need 2 more computers. But hey, apparently I won't need another MIDI Time Piece, nor another 2408.
I'm not sure how, but I must buy this monster THIS year.
I'm running VE 2 on a dual 2.5 with dp 5.13, (with the full vienna instruments and extended licenses) and all i can say is it's a dream. Sure, I'm pushing the computer to the max and could do with ability to access more memory, but i've got 16 different instruments in the VE all working great on pretty orchestral-heavy sequences. It's a joy. can't wait for the 64-bit version soon. then octo-core, here we come!
sorry, OT!
