Frodo wrote:Yes, Nicky-- that was my whole point. The blurb on MOTU's site seems fine for those who are updating on the same Tiger drive where a previous version of DP is already running.
I fresh-installed Leo and DP 4 or 5 times (experimenting with partitioning and image making) when I got the new machine.
Not a hitch; I simply followed MOTU's instructions.
Frodo wrote:But for someone installing DP in Leopard for the first time, there is an inherent catch-22: 5.13 is the "first" official Leo version-- but there is no "official" previous install for Leopard even though a previous install is required.
I still don't see the problem: MOTU requires some (if not most) of the previous installs as a base for the 5.13 update, so if you're installing from scratch, blindly following MOTU's instructions to the letter works.
I did skip the auth procedure in each case so as to not risk having to run a "non-official" version in Leo, but that was my only sin. :D

Let's face it, one must, IMHO, start by following the source's instructions; only then does one have a solid foundation for trouble/blame-shooting should issues arise.
I hope I'm not sounding too contentious, Hobby; the install instructions are clear as mud to me. :?
Frodo wrote:In any case, as long as we have the solution we don't really have the problem. :P
Agreed, but I don't see the problem in the first place.
To follow MOTU's instructions is the solution; not to do so is the problem.

I've seen many folks on the board here have issues that're unheard of to me (all MOTU plugs missing, for instance), simply because they failed to notice the install "requirements" accompanying each update.
Call me neurotic, but I always scan for "requirements" when installing any software. :D

Hope all's going well, Fwoggy. :D

If you have the solution, there is no problem.

I suppose it doesn't matter.

My apologies.

Unacceptable. So humble and kind, our Fwogster.
Mate, if anything, I should be apologising to you.
Sorry bud.

It was I, after all, who crashed the party with the revelation that MOTU's semi-hidden, subtle yet specific instructions were... valid.

Take care, Hobster.
