Lots of differing opinions. Giles said 5.13 is grossly unstable for him. It's been the MOST stable platform for me since the OS9 (2001) days. I've essentially had zero crashes in the past 4 months, but there was a file that got corrupted. Magic Dave at MOTU was able to revive it, though. So, if we consider that a success, and it was, then my record over the past 4 months has been perfect.

I'm having a ball with 5.13 on an Intel Mac Pro 2.66 GHz Dual-Duo (February 2007). Leopard 10.5.2. Kontakt2 Player with 4 Garritan packages, MOTU Symphonic Instrument, Mach 5.2, Ivory, Akoustik Piano, Wallander Instruments, Waves Platinum... Probably other things, but you get the idea, I'm sure.

I'm running DP 5.13 with OS 10.4.11 without a crash. Check my signature for my setup.

Frodo,

What version of Quicktime are you using on that macpro?

Thanks

Yeah- I'm going to hang with 7.4.1 for a good while longer until something else pops up for Tiger... since 10.4.11 appears to be the last of Tiger.

I may move ahead with the new update on my Leopard drive now that 10.5.3 has been seeded to developers.

Hi I am sorry. 5.12 is the version I use! It is rocksolid on a MacPro Quad Intel! At least in my setup!

MAking sure it's clarified.

It's unstable during a MIX..... 60+ tracks going and a ton of plugins... BAM!!!! Crash.....

I just want this part of life over. LOL.. I am running Leopard as well. It was more stable under 10.4, but I am not downgrading my OS.

Actually under 10.4 it was ROCK SOLID.

After checking this thread, decided to do some digging. Time machine was an issue and syslogd was an issue. When syslogd is Draining compute cycles DP gets flakey....

Hopefully apple has fixed this issue in 10.5.3 though I dont see this listed in the developer logs as being fixed. But then you know apple. LOL.

I swear, as the days go by I hate Logic more and more for mixing. I decided to do an AAF export of a track I was mixing in logic. Pulled it into DP adjusted faders and it sound 100x better.

Hopefully with TM off, I can mix this song in DP without issue.

I will miss logics Modulation plugins which KILL DP. and the new Compressor. DP 6 should eliminate that lust. PLUS UA finally dropped the dbx 160 comp I have been asking for for the past 4 years. LOL.

THANKS UA....

There may be issues unique to each OS where they exist. The biggest issue, I think, is whether or not drivers and plugins are written well for Leopard, if they are even available.

For those issues that occur in both Tiger and Leopard (such as crashes during Chunk importing, in my case), it may be a wash. Staying with Tiger has less of a benefit in cases where the pros and cons are largely identical. I can't say yet that Leopard is "better". It very well may be, but I just haven't logged enough Leopard hours to make a fair assessment between it and Tiger where DP performance is concerned.

I will say that I've never had a single crash in Leopard with DP5.13, and there have been no appreciable OS issues with DP and Tiger in quite a few months. All of my software is up to date with the exception of the latest QuickTime version which was just released yesterday.
