Yeah, I hear ya. ATT blows. I believe you can find unlocked iPhones on the web that you can use with T-Mobile, but still no solution for Verizon or Sprint....kgdrum wrote:yeah but i hate at&t wireless it's really bad here in NYC, if they had a full fledged pda now, i think it would be well receivedResonant Alien wrote:The new iPod Touch and iPhone are essentially PDAs.......didn't Apple try a full-on PDA once upon a time? Yeah, Marathon, that's the company I was thinking of. It's been eight years since I last looked at their solutions. They were VERY pricey at that time.
I guess I'm just surprised that Sweetwater doesn't offer their own solution by now for rack-mounting Mac Minis or Mac Pros. Maybe there's only value-added for them if they're doing their own enclosure as well, but there is another company that has converted a MacBook to a touch screen tablet computer, so Apple does seem willing to partner in this regard.

It was called the Newton. It was years ahead of its time as I recall and the handwriting recognition was painfully flakey. Later, Palm did it and it caught on like wildfire. Sometimes a good thing comes out too soon and it's not quite there yet. Also, knowing Apple at the time, it probably cost a LOT of money back then.Resonant Alien wrote:The new iPod Touch and iPhone are essentially PDAs.......didn't Apple try a full-on PDA once upon a time? According to the Apple site, the MacPros are 21" inches tall. That'd be some trick to squeeze that into a 19" rack, without a hacksaw.Frodo wrote:There are third-party kits for rack mounting Macs, though it's probably not the same.
Curious-- considering the size of the MacPro itself, wouldn't a rack mount version have to be at least 4-5 rack units or larger?

Newton was the name of the OS & the unit itself was called the Apple MessagePad (though they were all called Newtons regardless). I still have one in my pile of old Apple stuff. They were about 5 years too soon for anyone to realize how utterly brilliant the idea was.James Steele wrote:It was called the Newton. Hard to see, but I'm guessing there are no rack rails on the bottom portion so that they can fit it in.

Hmm.... according to this (click on "Gallery"), the MP is 20.1" (OK, I screwed up saying 21" earlier, but the type is small and low contrast and I'm old.). I guess you have to wiggle it in by going at an angle.Resonant Alien wrote:

If you look closely at the photos on RA's link, the chassis is overhanging the shelf by a small bit, and it is indeed wider than the Digi interface above it, and behind the rails.
