Jim, I'd be much more interested in your wealth of musical vision rather than some alleged or unfairly presupposed lack of musical knowledge. Your musical knowledge is just as valid as anyone else's, imho.

Particularly in a composition or songwriting forum not only would it be okay to focus on what you *do* know or what you'd *like* to know, but it would also be quite refreshing to have more threads from people whose perspectives just shoot from the hip and come from the heart to balance those threads that get rather "heady".

Wasn't it Debussy who was considered inept in harmony? How ironic is that? Yet he went on to win the Grand Prix de Rome.

Always the statesman, Frodo. Thank you. You may live to regret this advice. I'll try to always remember your kindness.

Mike, I didn't know that about Debussy (exposing myself again). Clearly, the man had an inner knowledge of music. I love most of his works I've heard. I'd always considered his music as cinematic... easy to conjure images to go with the soundtrack.
