I have a Ward-Beck console with M480 pres. They are very similar to API's or Neve's but are something all of themselves. They can be found racked up on eBay and the price point is excellent given their low-profile in the audio community. Those who know about them love them (as I do) and you might want to give them a try. You can check out my website and pull up the songs by Due East. The drums were recorded through the Ward-Becks with standard drum mics. www.janglyrecords.com
My 2 cents worth.....
