the command is "play from insertion point"

notice when u click on the track a thin black line blinks?

that is the insertion point

if the track is in (for example) volume edit mode - then u would have to click on a break point...

back to insertion points - if u copy something it will be inserted at the insertion point....

also selections can be made based on the insertion point -

set insert point to wiper - the period on the numeric key pad will set insertion to wiper...

the hit shift return - it will select from insertion to start if song... you can "grow" that selection (track by track - or simply all visible -

use the search in the commands window ( shift L ) to verify these - I have changed them and can't remember the originals,,,

What version of DP are you running? I am in 5.11 and I don't have a command called "play from insertion point" (at least the search function in my commands window cannot find one).

Could you please update your signature to include your current version of DP? Perhaps this is a new command in 5.12?

Is there a command for setting the timeline/memory loop selection to the selection in the tracks / sequence?

I.E.: Select an soundbite from a track in the Sequence window, hit a button and now you can loop around it.

Thanks!

Yes. (With loop mode on) Select the soundbite then press control-option-shift-C. If you then press control-option-C the counter will jump to the start of the loop.

I've programmed the two as a macro on my Kensington trackball.

Thanks Martian,

That is definitely a useful command that I was not taking advantage of. I shall immediately begin working that one into my regular repetoire... however, it does still require that you specifically click within the timeline ruler rather than anywhere in the edit window. I am hoping that in a future version of DP you won't be required you to reach up to click on the ruler, when it would be much more efficient to be able to click anywhere in the editor window.

u aint doing it right mate!

I can click any where - and control click and it plays from there - no need to fart around clicking on the time line bit...

look in the transport commands section..

also look at the memory in point in the transport

can u see the insertion point flashing when u click on the screen?

or haS a breakpoint been highlighted ( yellow)

then control space will playfrom there....

Okay... some progress... :-)

First of all, let me thank you, martian, for responding to that posting which I made almost three months ago! And thank you also for persevering with me.

I HAVE managed to replicate what you describe in the TRACKS window. I can now click anywhere in the tracks window, see the flashing insertion point, and then control-space to play from there. Very glad to have learned that!

I still cannot, however, do the same thing in the SEQUENCE or MIDI graphic edit windows, without clicking into the timeline. Perhaps there is something disabled in my settings? I wonder. Couldn't see anything else in the transport commands that seemed as if it might change this.

Can you please confirm that you are able to do this keyboard command in graphic edit windows other than the TRACKS window?

Thanks in advance.
Even if we get no further, I am delighted to be that much closer to what I have been wanting.

Hey Zed and Martian...

I do most of my audio editing in the Sequence window.

I hate having to jump up to the timeline to set the play location.
It is a narrow space and takes you out of the flow of editing.

I can see that the arrow cursor's location is being followed by the time line.
It should be easy to set a command to "play from arrow location".
This would save me so much time and mousing.
This is probably an obvious answer, but I can't find it in the manual or by searching the Commands window.

Thanks All

Yeah, I couldn't agree more. But I don't think the current version allows for that.

I'm hoping Martian will check back and confirm whether or not he can actually do that in the Sequence and MIDI windows... or perhaps someone else could chime in?
