Yeah, sounds great. The bass is a little murky, and the stereo field could be different to give a broader sense of space. I love old oscar peterson, bill evans and mcoy tyner (among many others) trio recordings where the piano is on one side, bass is up the middle and the drums are on the other side (or any combo like that) The bleed between instruments will give that sense of depth and space. in a situation like this, i would put them in order of left to right based on how they were set up. Also, it gives the listener more of a sense of being there as it happened instead of being in the band. my .02 from a guy with a jazz performance degree...

ddd..dd.d.d. damn, man thats sounds good. Though I agree there is some lower mid mud, especially the bass.

Not that I'm complainin' some eq would really sharpen it up. Some ambience in the drum kit should give it some life.

Man, I may need to invest in the MH ULN2 also.

Hi Leigh.
Great playing and great recording. I really liked it.
I'm a piano/keyboards performer and I'm looking into buying a MetricHalo ULN2+DSP interface wich is gonna be my first recording interface.
I have a PowerBookTitanium
1GHz, soon to be upgraded to a PowerBookPro 3MB Ram and a DigitalPerformer software wich I've been useing for the past 12 years just for sequencing.
Tell me please, since is not clear to me: Is the ChannelStrip INCLUDED in
the DSP I'm gonna get together with my ULN2, or I have to get it separately?
ThankYou.

Thanks, everyone, for the feedback.

I gave it a listen and put my Spectrafoo analyzer on it so I actually could see what was happening in the mids and lows as well as hear it. When I get to mixing, I'll try maybe a 2 or 3 dB cut at 125Hz and 3 dB low roll-off and see what happens.

I'll also listen to my OP collection and then try some things with the stereo field.

The Earthworks mics are terrific. They seem good on a lot of things from piano, to spaced omni choral recording, to drum overheads.

I can't compare them to the DPA & Schoeps but I would bet they are at least as good.

The ULN-2 can't be beat for pres, converters and DSP. ChannelStrip (and a whole lot more) is included in it.

Hiroaki Honshuku has some good info about MH gear and mics and using the MIOs with DP:

Thanks again for all your feedback (and thanks, James, for this board!)

Thank you Leigh. Happy to hear the good news. As I understand MH makes probably the most stable audio interfaces for Mac(+DP).
I'm gonna get a ULN2+DSP in a couple of months. I'm really sory it doesn't have a MIDI interface built in, but I guess I'll be still useing my old MOTU MIDI interface.

I can't take credit for the playing, only the recording.

Very good. My compliments to them - as well as to you for your lovely intimate recording!

Oh yes, this is extremely groovy. I really like the overall warmth of the piece, most notably the warmth of the bass. The action on the piano is nice but it seems like the highs may not be getting through as much as they could.

The instrumentation is gravy. Cool piece! Very cool.

I'll have a Tad of that Weed, after which I'm sure I'll feel a Tad Weedy.

Sorry. How could anyone resist?

Well I managed to make the effort!

Puns are far worse than heroin.

This explains so much, Kaszper; thank you.

Don't let punning ruin your life, Monkey.

I almost lost everything through excessive punning. And spoonerising.
