Fantastic-- so, a fresh install and a removal of expired plugins has worked for one user.
dee and mct-- are you sure your AU or MAS plugins folders don't contain any old data? Perhaps you have a demo bundle or demo component file somewhere on your computer?
These are possible causes, but may not be *probable* causes in your case...
Still trying to burn the haystack...

Happened to me as well, get rid of the Audio Unit Test Cache file and see if it helps you, it helped me out here.

I was getting crashes on 5.11. I dumped the Audio Unit Info Cache. DP reexamined all my plugs. I've done this before but this time DP seemed to take an extra long time with the examination - about twenty minutes. After that, everything was fine.
Actually more than fine. I redid an mix I had done acouple of days ago. I did a couple of minor EQ tweaks and pitch correction on the vocals but nothing that could account for the crisp, more defined sound that I am now getting. Has anyone else experienced this?

Now that I'm running good I thought I should chime in with positive, and not only the negative...5.11 wouldn't even open completely without shutting down. I had something called pianoteq-- a free piano plug-in, that would show up the same time DP shut down. So, I removed it, also removed 5.1 all together and the 5.11 update, too. Then reinstalled 5.1 and 5.11update (I'm not sure I had to install 5.1, pretty sure I didn't, but I did anyway) and all is fine. I mean really fine, so far. Like, I pushed the effect plug ins to 6 on one track and 5 on another and so on, bounced to disc, etc, etc...and no problems.
Yay! After more than 2 months, finally a new DP user here who is happy as a clam!
Thanks for the help, guys (especially the all-attentive and VERY active forum member Frodo.) Now I can get on to asking stupid questions about how to actually perform functions in DP. Watch out, I'm pretty dumb.

Fantastic news, 31flies; that hobbit's pretty useful.

I wish deepcgi would write back and let us know if he resolved the problem or not, since others have. Bothers me to have this subject header floating out there if it's been fixed and it was expired demo plugs that caused it.

Good call, Jimbo.
Everyone seems sorted on this, and we haven't heard from deepcgi since October 25.
I say we declare it sorted.

interestingly I had a break in my schedule today at last and thought I would try the updater since I havce a couple of weeks before next DP delivery.... and it hardly hurts not to be the first to install it eh?
decided to make dp 5.1 no access cos for some reason I was unable to update successfully the open all files with DP5.11 thing - this has been going on for a whilke - I had to throw 5.0 and .01 away becuase of this glitch.... ( yes i tried repai permissions)
was experiencing unexpected quits on launch...
anyways - having dp5.1 no access appeared to be the cause?? any clues on that?

The updater needs access to all DP/ MAS files in order to update/ install 5.11. You shouldn't set the permissions to "no access" until after the install.
Also, I could be wrong, but, I'm pretty sure Repair permission doesn't work on DP...

Hi There
I have just upgraded from 4.61. The only way I can get DP to open is by trashing the Audio Unit Info Cache each time.
Also my SAC 2.2 control surface is not responding although it is on line
and shows up in the control surface setup.
Many thanks

Is it just me, or are you a little light on RAM?
Your plugs, esp. Kontakt, audio bussing etc. may require more of it.
Just a thought.

Thanks MM. I just deleted some old key bindings and DP now works well.
I am about to buy the new Mac Pro.

Yay! Cool.
Let's hope deepcgi got things sorted, too.
Good luck, musicb3.
