Defragment Hard Disk?

All I'm saying is that defragging works and that's why I do it. That's all that matters in the end. Do what works for you.

I find that defragging the drive used for audio is more dramatic with respect to DP. No tool is needed; just another drive or partition of equal or greater size.

Copy all filles from the audio disk to the other partition/disk. Erase or reformat the original audio disk - Don't just trash the files . Then copy the files back onto that original disk. The copying process is often faster than a defrag routine and results in contiguous files and free space. The directory is also rewirtten from scratch.

Good cheap maintenance.


Use a $$ utility on your main OS drive, though. I like TechTool; but remember that the system defraggs itself somewhat if left unattended (at around 2a-6am).
