We will see MachFive v2 someday. It's almost 3 years late, but we DP users die hard.
For PTs users I'll bet my copy of MachFive that there will be a new sampler from digidesign's AIR division before there will be a v2 of MachFive.

Six months from scratch versus 3 years for an update. :!:

AirPlay - great name for a sampler

Wouldn't it be hilarious if there was a generous crossgrade offer for MachFive owners?

I love wishful thinking... we do it so well on this forum.

Musicology...
I ended up with Mach5 not wanting to deal with SoftSampleCell.
I suppose I was lucky to miss that thing. Since I had two or three versions of the SampleCell NuBus or PCI cards, each of which cost me quite a bit of money, one of which blew up and cost me a Mac, the card, my drive, three not yet saved songs, a lot of time and a 45 minute tech support call to digidesign, one week and shipping, I guess that's why I opted out.
I got the SampleCell and Digi audiocard with Sound Designer so I could maintain compatibility with my FZ-1. That feature, the transfer feature, was dropped before I could move most of my sounds.
Well, later, I figured at least I could move the new patches from SCII to my Mach5.
Ah, but it was never quite right and I could never play too many patches at a time!
Well, I thought, maybe my MacBook could manage this since my PowerBook could never really keep up.
Well It's been along time since I've used the Mach5 for anything. I'm glad just about every piece of software now, and every other piece of software includes a serviceable sampler.
If you really need one.
Now I will play what I need.
Or get friend to play what I need.
Or use some other audio player to play a clip.
Or something.
And so it goes.

From USB, maker of Machfive V2

Saw this on USB web site.

The following products now exist as a new form:
Plugsound is being replaced by Plugsound Pro, Charlie is now UVI Soundcard Retro Organs, UltraFocus becomes UVI Soundcard Synths Anthology, and X-Treme FX moves to UVI Soundcard X-Treme FX.
The UVI Soundcards series includes exactly the same sounds as the previous UltimateSoundBank virtual instruments for a lower price, and offers the highest creative possibilities when integrated in Plugsound Pro and MachFive V2.
Each UVI Soundcard is Mac-Intel based compatible.

Learn more about:
- PlugsoundPro
- UVI Soundcard Retro Organs
- UVI Soundcard Synths Anthology
- UVI Soundcard X-Treme FX

They seem to think it should be out.

Well, they're the ones making it.

It's a bit of a mystery. Who's holding up MachFive 2? Is it the UVI manufacturers, USB? Or is it the licensed distributor, MOTU?

And for what reasons? Legal snafu between the companies? MOTU's lack of desire to continue the product line? Belgians?

Given Plugsound Pro's capabilities, I find it hard to believe it's a technical snag. Seems to me Plugsound Pro is MachFive 2, just without the sample edit abilities.

Who knows?

Does that mean you're really using a G4 Dual Gig, OSX 10.2.1, DP 3, and a 2408 mk2 ? :D
