Ah!! Someone with both!! Hmm.
Details-- me need details!
How are you using your samplers?
-- to create sounds from scratch?
-- to play back sounds only?
-- to import/convert from other formats?
What is it about K2 that lures you away from M5?
Thanks, Stan.

I haven't done any sampling (recording samples) with M5 or K2.
I have imported sounds with both VI's and Kontakt is far easier and more reliable. For example, I imported the Roland orchestra series into both. First, I imported it into M5 (because that's the one I licensed first) and none of the solo oboes imported properly, for example. They would have some ranges that seemed OK and others that did not. When I licensed K2, I almost immediately imported the Roland stuff again. This time, the solo oboes came in almost 100%.
For me, the interface to other functions is also easier to use. (More "friendly", but that's too anthropomorphic regarding software most of the time.) Multi-timbral setups, tweaking sounds (sample ranges, layers, etc.) and loop playing all seem easier in K2. YMMV.
I like the reverbs (and several other effects) in K2. Always turned them off in M5.
CPU use with M5 seemed to bop up and down without corresponding instrument usage occasionally. K2 uses CPU, but it follows the use of more instruments or more MIDI data being fed it.
Gotta get ready for the day. Hope that gives you some impressions...

Qsource and Frodo,
Is a comparison between K2.x and M5 1.x fair?
If a week's a long time in politics...
I know we have to go on what's available, but...(resumes chanting)
Go Machy! Go Machy! Go Machy! Go Machy!
... I'd like to see M5 2 vs K2. My money would be on M5 2.
Just my MOTU-biased opinion...
Go Machy! Go Machy! Go Machy! Go Machy!

Is it fair?
Given that MOTU has (still) not released v2, I'd say it's fair.

M & Q--
Both good points. I've always wanted to compare v2 of both apps to level the playing field, but I've got to agree that if one puts one's best foot forward for the sake of comparison or competition-- and if MOTU has tacitly asserted M5 v1 is the best they can offer for now, then I suppose all is indeed fair in love and war.
There are penalties for being late, but only MOTU can change that for us.

Well, yeah. You can only compare what's available. If you're a workin' man, that's all that counts. I mean, should we be comparing M5 v.2 against K3? Who knows what the future holds?
Here's an outta-my-ass prediction: M5 v2 by the end of this month.
Odds?

I can only hope you're right, Chris. I feel it's right on the horizon..

Oh, MOTU has got to be close with v2 at this point. With the release of DP-UB 5.1, how unhandsome would it be if v1 and MSI no longer worked for DP users for "how many more" months?
I'll say September, but anytime during August would be fine with me.

Who set the entry-date to this competition?
It's not MOTU's fault K became 2 when it did.
MOTU will take its starting position when it's good and ready.
Go Machy! K2 Killer! Go Machy! K2 Killer! Go Machy! K2 Killer! Go Machy!

True, but you're still comparing a v1 with a v2 app.
That's NEVER been a
level playing-field. (Damn that cliche')...

Sounds good to me.
Odds?
90%+ for August.
95%+ for September...
