Kool. thanks for the advice. i'm definitely getting tempted.
The main question is....
1/ Will i be able to take my piles
of machfive presets and simply load them into kontakt?
2/ It looks much deeper, and much more complicated.
Is it absolutely necessary to learn most of it, or is it possible to operate it on a simpler level until i want to delve deeper?

I was on the verge of buying Kontakt II, but I was just too busy and getting by with the Virtual Instruments I have.
I will confess that my amazing Garritan Stradivari Solo Violin
and Bela D Giovonni Children's Choir have sat lying in the dust but I've been getting by... Seems there are so many programming atributes within Kontakt II that these instruments take advantage of there is no point in trying to run them in Mach Five.
Same Goes with EWQLs Symphonic Orchestra. But I'm quite happy with the stand alone version of the Garritan Personal Orchestra and 'dollars to donuts' its an incredible value.
Now as I lift my head to look up from the battle, I see that MACH FIVE II is just around the corner. Personally I like the interface much better than the Kontakt interface... So I've waited this long, what the heck?
Though I hope there is at least trade up deal for previous owners. Just for all the pain and suffering and failures trying to get my old Sample Cell Library to work.

if you bought mach 5 AFTER January 16th of 2006, you get the upgrade and library for free.
I love how MOTU punishes those who invest in their R&D costs FIRST, and gives the break to the Languid stragglers....so wrong. It's just so wrong
Kontakt imports everything i've thrown at it, no problem....it even imported my Aunt Helen's 8mm home movie from CD

I was told 2006 by a lackey at MOTU...so who knows....all i do know is that the original Mach 5 library was the worse excuse for a sampler i have even come across. Even the Emulator !, back in 1982, had a better pound for pound library, considering the time. All that the Mach 5 "Library" consisted of was a UVI cross promotion. I'm sure there were kickbacks involved...
my favorite was "192khz percussion"...yippee, a cabasa!! That and the "Synth" section it must have taken them at least 12 minutes to compile that baby
