Not the way it works on my system. Keeps playing regardless of RETURN or ENTER.tommymandel wrote:I found a new 'feature'. Tell me if you like it:
Since 5.01, when you are playing a sequence, and you type in a locate point, (Decimal Point key on numeric keypad, then a number, then Enter) it goes to the locate point, and immediately goes into PAUSE, rather than continue play at the new location. This is true even if you hit Return, rather than Enter, and also if you cursor and drag over the actual measure number in the Transport Window.
Perhaps it's in the interest of cleaner MIDI, but I wonder if there's a pref to toggle this feature on and off?
And this is new, if I'm not mistaken?

That must be what the additional 1.117.448 bytes are for.
I just realized if you like it better the 'old way', you can just double strike the Enter key, and the 2nd keypress starts play rapidly, very close to the way it used to work.

Can't find a preference for it... doens't really matter. I prefer the transport to continue anyway. The numeric 0 is right there if i want to stop it. Hmmm... maybe he has big thumbs?Frodo wrote:Sounds like a preference setting toggled on or off?

Now I'm gonna have thumb envy all day!

Hey Frodo,
A project that has always taxed my machine was created in DP 4.6.1. It has 38 audio tracks, no MIDI and a bunch 'o pluggins.
I just ran this test:
Results (no frozen tracks)
4.6.1 - CPU runs in the red most of the time.
5.0 - CPU at approx. 90%, hit red 6 times over the course of 3.5 minute song.
5.0.1 - CPU at approx. 75% no spikes.
Dual 800 MHz G4 (quicksilver), OS 10.4.6.
I'm happy!

in 5 I had crashes when egde editing merged soundbites in big mutitrack splices that I could do fine in 4.61. Tired the same edits in 5.01 and no probs. Good!

I think I figured it out. "Pause on Locate" only occurs in a DP file if there are no audio tracks.

Happens to me even with an audio track. I'm hating this.tommymandel wrote:I think I figured it out. "Pause on Locate" only occurs in a DP file if there are no audio tracks.

you're right - (i do kind of like it myself, but) "Pause on Locate" is not an issue of 'audio track or no audio track'. . . sorry....still testing.

Now, this is troubling. Many more users of DP are using audio exclusively from or in addition to MIDI. Why would they offer a feature so few users could take advantage of? Maybe this was an oversight, but still...muzishun wrote:Happens to me even with an audio track. I'm hating this.tommymandel wrote:I think I figured it out. There was a Bergman/Bergman tune some years ago with the line:
Why have the thirst
if not to drink the wine?
And what a waste to have a taste
Of things that can't be mine?
I'm trying to stay positive about all this, but I hope we're not taking two steps forward and one step back...

Really does seem like that sometimes, doesn't it? Overall, I'm pretty happy with the latest version.Frodo wrote: I'm trying to stay positive about all this, but I hope we're not taking two steps forward and one step back...

I'm still getting DP5 and will stick with the app, but the thing I can't deal with is surprises of dysfunction. As long as I have reliable workarounds I'm okay. If such features were themselves reliable, I'd be a lot better!

Frodo, Maybe I owe you an apology for jumping to hasty conclusions regarding the occurence of "Pause on Locate". I am getting it under a bewildering set of circumstances, and not under others, but it's hard to see a simple pattern.
1. when I use my default template and create a new sequence in 5.01, I DO get PoL. (and I like it.)
2. when I choose New and Empty from the 5.01 File Menu, I DON'T get PoL.
3. When I open a file with audio and MIDI tracks that we created yesterday with 5.0, I DON'T get PoL.
4. When I open most any older DP file on my HD, I DON'T get PoL.
5. When I choose New and 'MIDI and Audio' from the 5.01 File Menu, and record a MIDI track, I DON'T get PoL.
6.When I open up the first DP 5.01 doc I created late last night, I DON'T get PoL. BUT that was created before I trashed my prefs and repaired permission.
---I'd say that it appears to be a result of my default template, but then again, Muzishun has it too.
Whatever the cause of the erratic appearance of "Pause on Locate", I'm still very comfortable and happy with DP 5 and DP 5.01 even more so. I'll keep trying to figure out WHY sometimes it's there for a seq, and sometimes it's not.
