Buzzsmith, that's what i was first trying, opening from DP file menu. No luck. No track window, just pretends like nothing happened.

I just found that if I open in Sibelius and export as a new .mid file., I can open in DP no problem. But seems I have to do this with all .mid files. Very odd. I tried opening with no problem in ten other MIDI apps.

I have some MIDI files that can't be opened by DP.
No matter which way I try: drag it, open from command+O.

The same files can be imported to Reason with no problem.
After I export them out of Reason, I can drag them to DP. :? :?

These files were sent to MOTU tech, they can't open them either.

If anyone want to try just email me, I'd sent them to you.

I'll post a reply by email from David G. We came up with the same workaround: open in another app adn export. david found the problem to be Safari, when saving as source. I was able to open in Sibelius and export.

Questionable if this is a DP or Safari problem, or a bit of both.

Hello.
I've had the same issue than you.
I had to open it in Quick Time and export it so it opens in DP.
I had this bug happening once.
The situation was:
If in safari, I open a MIDI file and chose save as, the MIDI file created this way was unusable in DP.
My turnaround was. I downloaded the MIDI file from the link (control click on the link and choose : download selected item) The MIDI file was untouched by safari and it opened fine in DP.

I've just open the original MIDI that you've send me in.... SAFARI!!
(Contol click > contextual menu > open with > I've choose safari - (you'll have to uncheck open with recommanded apps)) Then when it was open in safari, I di a "save as" on the desktop and know I can drag it in DP!

So, it seams there is a corruption in your MIDI files maybe comming from the way you've downloaded them (Because Safari can fix it) Try the download procedure I've described before or to download with firefox?

I don't know if that's the solution for you, I hope that you understand my point??
Let me know if it works

Cheers

David

I can add this test.

I have downloaded a MIDI file with safari, first with the control click method (without opening the MIDI file in safari) and I can load this file in DP. Then I have tried the other method, opening the link in safari and then, I did "save as" from safari, result: it didn't work in DP.

Then, I've done the exact same test in firefox, both files were loading fine in DP.

There is a conflict between safari and DP in this MIDI files history.

For me, it's not a big deal now with this workaround.

After reading this I went back to download the same MIDI files with Firefox.
Now they all work with DP. :D

I had this problem. This worked for me.
If you still have DP3 on OS9 you can open it there, save as a DP3 file & open it in DP4 {OSX)
good luck.
