Can your Powercore or UAD run fxpansions BFD? Or the VSL running on NI Kontakt 2?
My point is that even if you have a TDM or other DSP accelerator system, most of the plugins that run on them are FX, not instruments, and usually only certain effects. What about your other 3rd party effects and instrument plugins? One VI that uses lots of CPU power, loads lots of samples into RAM and also does disk streaming, like say Kontakt 2, will still bring your G5 to its knees...s the title of this topic is suggesting. The Receptor is a solution that works now.
Well according to all the documentation I can find online right now, Kontact isn't supported, and compatibility is unknown? Same seems to be true of BFD.
This is my biggest problem with Receptor, if Reactor was working great on Receptor, and Kontact 2 , Battery, Zebra, Microrock, etc. Basically I like the idea, and especially now that you're planning on streaming MIDI and audio, but I really would want Receptor for Reactor, and there is no information about this beautiful pig of a plug in working well in receptor.

FWIW: According to Mix magazine, Garbage uses Receptor to run VIs for their live show. They name Kompakt as their main sampler VI. So, there's one NI sampler that seems to hold up on Receptor.

Yeah that's on the list, but Reactor and Kontact are not. What with Kontact 2 having a built in convolution reverb, and Reactor being the beast that it is, those are the two plugs that most interest me in third party solutions. FM7 for instance works very well in Live 4, and doesn't even eat up as much CPU as Live's own built in FM synth.

I don't seem to see any but one plugin that I use, I wonder when we'll see:
MX4
Mach5
Reaktor
Absynth
The only thing I do see is Albino2. I find that MX4 really taxes my system more than anything else.

BFD, Kontakt 2, Battery 2 and Absynth 3 are basically finished, we are just waiting for permission from Native Instruments to put the installer helpers online at Plugorama.com.
Mach 5, Reaktor 5 and MX 4 are on the list and will be coming soon....
I'm not familiar with Zebra and Microrock, I will have to check

Thanks for the reply!

Have to scold you a bit about Zebra. Urs Heckman has his online forum for his products on KVR, and you guys own KVR..... You have a sale when Reactor is on the list, Kontact being there is almost enough, but Reactor is the plug in that I can see still using a third party piece of hardware to run when the macintel powerbooks hit 6ghz, or the dual core equivalent of even.
right now it's tempting, but the one plug that cripples my system, and will even over time is Reactor.

There are a LOT of plugins listed on KVR, so please forgive me for not being up to speed on Zebra. I'm out on the road all of the time, so playing with plugins and surfing the web forums is something I try and make time for, but I can't do it as often as I'd like.
I'll post here as soon as we have Reaktor working. Where do you live, do you have a preferred dealer that you like to buy music equipment from?
