I don't see any preference to go back to the old behavior.
I found this by pressing record and doing a take that didn't get recorded...

This is due to the existence of Retrospective MIDI Record (Region menu) , perhaps?

Could also be due to Clips and the ability to record them now. Press record, then fire Clips to record them into the timeline etc.

I would also like to know how others are handling this bread and butter task in v10. Re Option-drag to zoom. I set up Option-Z to access the Zoom tool. I'm told this is a more Mac-like convention, but it's not a good option. Option-drag to zoom (which can be done with one hand on my mouse) is crucial for when you only have one hand free, like if you're holding a guitar or whatever. I'm guessing there's mouse enhancement utility that could make this happen, but I haven't looked yet.
Re shift-restrain dragging between tracks. MOTU acknowledged the issue on 10.0 and apologized for it not being fixed in 10.01. I've basically removed it from my workflow at this point and haven't bothered to follow up on the Techlink. I just cut and paste in the SE now.

Are these still broken? They broke in 10.01 and should have been fixed in 10.1. Not clear from your sig which you are referring to

Yes. Shift-constrain dragging between tracks in the SE is still broken in DP 10.1.

The behavior is the same in both, which is why I am fearing that it's a design change. One tech told me that's it's working perfectly on his system, but perfect in a new design perhaps?? Unclear. Another tech verified the behavior we are all seeing. so, ya got me...
Personally I don't mind design changes, but not at the expense of already perfectly designed GUI functions. Very frustrating.

What the tech told you -- works on his machine -- is something we are seeing more and more often. At the release of 10.01 some of us saw and some didn't see some of these problems with dragging MIDI from track to track. The same thing with visibility of automation data showing through soundbites.
The problem of not getting the soundbite view when clicking the colour bar was verified by MOTU, but a bunch of us are not seeing the problem.
It would be nice if they beta tested DP on more varied machines so this didn't happen so often.

The majority are clip related.

I'm a bit confused by how confusing this all seems to you guys?
I've always use straight z for zooming, it temperarily selects the zoom in magnifying tool. Option z plus click here has always temporarily selected zoom out. Double tap selects the zoom In magnifying glass, with the option key held down it selects the zoom out state.
I'm pretty sure I didn't set this up, and yeah it's standard for a lot of applications on OSX.

Not so standard over multiple versions of OS X. I've had Opt arrow and Cmd arrow for zoom depending on which OS X wanted to use as shortcuts. There's also confusion when documented zoom methods don't work.

Just to be clear, I'm specifically talking about z for temporary click drag zooming, hitting z twice to switch to the zoom tool, and option click to zoom out. Option click is a standard zoom out command for more than one application I have used on OSX.
I've never used option arrow or command arrow for zooming so I couldn't know how it's changed over time.

I'm not confused by the new Zoom tool mandate, just bummed. The elegance of option-dragging to zoom on the timeline is deeply imbedded into my workflow. It may have been a StudioVision thing! - which will indicate to you just how long I've been doing it. I'll simply have to adjust is all.

Totally. I'm a piano guy and I have used my thumb on the Option key and dragging to zoom for decades. Now it's my finger. Doesn't sound like a big deal but it's like switching the gas and brake pedals in a car. And I can't create a keyboard shortcut with just the Option key. I've talked to MOTU about this (twice) and will plead when I see them in LA for NAMM. Otherwise, I will retrain my brain. And DP 10.1 is by far the ultimate version of this software. Just so fluid now. Wow!!! (Running on High Sierra)
