Working beautifully on Intel 2 Duo Core 6 gig RAM.

Less CPU hit, and the new MachFive 3.2 is just as smooth running too.

Way to go MOTU! New life for my old machine!

Uh, welp, I installed 8.05 and proceeded to have a terrible and crashy day, although things seemed to draw faster on the screen. Now, how do I go back to 8.04?

Now, how do I go back to 8.04?
Easily - but it helps know your setup to point you in the right direction. Knowing what "broke" also helps.

You can restore a single application via Time Machine. It will ask if you want to replace the new version with the old or keep both. It is a little known but very cool feature. Tech Support at MicroMat taught me that trick when a new version of TechTool Pro didn't work properly on my iMac and the old version could not be downloaded.

When I first got 8.05, I had several problems. A re-install cleared everything up. I'm not saying you have a bad install, but I did. Reinstalling might be worth a try.

Thanks guys, but I really wasn't looking for help as much as just venting. 8.04 didn't crash at all on the same sequences. Nothing else in my config changed between the two versions.

However, just for the sake of explanation, the two crashes I kept getting most consistently yesterday were when I would try and change the buffer size, and when I would try and drag an effect insert. (Usually MW EQ.) The error for the effect insert was something about "bad alloc" but would disappear too quickly for me to see it. Crash logs were unhelpful for anything else. I don't really have time at the moment to dig around and see if I can figure it out, and really the easiest thing would just to back out to 8.04. Usually I keep renamed versions, but for whatever reason this time I didn't. Sigh.

I hope when it crashed you got the dialog that asks if you want to send a report to MOTU and went ahead and sent the report. MOTU now has a crash reporter that sends the info to them and that may help them solve it. It's no consolation I know, but I'm not seeing that here. :(

Just wondering but have you tested RAM with something like Rember? Not likely it's your issue, but I've had RAM go bad and one of the symptoms in general flakiness and instability. :(

Repaired permissions? Reset PRAM?

Both can possibly fix this.

As I mentioned, Time Machine can restore 8.04 - either replace 8.05 or have both up, your choice. 8.04 is still available for download, too.

But we still don't know your setup so if there's anything specific that we can point to and say, that's probably it, you might try..., we won't know it.

This is why we have our setup as part of our signatures; not because we are bragging. It really does help.

DP 8.05 seems to be hanging on shut down for me WAAAAY more than 8.04 did.
I am using it in conjunction with Ve Pro too so I am not sure if that’s an issue?.
