Indeed-- "digital" was once a hot buzz word that distinguished one product from another. It reminds me of the days when TV shows would announce themselves as being "in color". :P

That would be fine. Not too hard to say. Names don't have to mean anything great, they just to sound good and not turn you off. Pro Tools is a stupid name, but it's easy to say. No one has to say "PT" (you have my permission to punch anyone who does). You think of it as one word, just a name, not actually "tools for pros".

You can get too clever, and/or simple. Ableton Live for example. You really can't use the name Live without adding Ableton, in speech or in print, because it's too vague. Logic, on the other hand, is a great name even though it couldn't be less logical. It's kind of a Jedi mind trick strategy. It's easy to say, remember, and if you say "Logic" in an audio context people know what you're talking about.

Surely there's something better than Performer though? It still sounds very 80's. I didn't like it at first, but something like Deep Audio 6 wouldn't be so bad.

considering the unicorn is proudly stamped on all of their rackmount devices i don't believe it's "expunged" to the point that this site needs to abondon it as well.

Mark of the Unicorn is probably the coolest name for a software company _ever_, and this "MOTU" crap was probably the idea of a marketing consultant. let's keep the unicorn alive here.

as far as the name of Performer goes, it's not our call but i would hate to see the name change.

this other program, Logic, used to be called Creator ... then Notator ... then Notator Logic ... then Notator Logic Audio then Logic Audio ... then Logic. kind of confusing.

Performer, OTOH, was Performer. then audio was added, and it became Digital Performer. stripping back the "Digital" part would be okay with me, but if they do that we should get the unicorn too.

That's fine. And in private, I'd think it was funny I suppose, but I try to keep this site as family-friendly as possible and not hostile for female users, so sexual references aren't really useful. Thanks.

I agree with this idea. Dropping the word "Digital" suits me fine. I always feel rather clunky saying it when people ask what I like to use for recording. I like keeping the Unicorn reference here.

Except its not really a great 'performing' application. Its a great music production application. Perhaps it should be 'Studio' or 'Producer' or something.

Heck, I like Echolalia. It seems particularly apt for an app that plays back everything it hears.

I gave up sex so that I could dedicate myself to contemplating the new name for Digital Performer.

What about calling it Hot, Wet Digital Action?

Has anyone made the Deep Six pun yet with DP6.0?

Am I late to that party?

Am I unnecessarily polluting this thread with more nonsense?

Wait, never mind, I think I just answered my own question...
