I'm excited too... I really hope multiple takes while loop recording MIDI (same way audio works for each pass) gets implemented.
And some screen shots would be so great.

All of DP 6's new features look just great. But there's a reason that PT and logic Pro have DSP options that greatly enhance the track count and processing capabilities regardless of what mac you're using. I love working in DP, but the more I work in Logic Pro and PT on full production CD, film and TV projects, I realize how wonderful and necessary it is to have mucho processing at your finger tips.
That's why Apogee came up with the symphony card and PT has it's HD format. But simply put DP is a much less efficient DAW. I wish, wish, wish, it wasn't so, but it is.
If DP 6 was saying we got a new kick ass code check it out I would be singing their praises, now I'm wondering how much CPU it's gonna take to power all these new features.
Is there anyone else out there in the same dilemma?

Some of the new features seem to address CPU consumption, at least for some users. If VI pre-rendering works as advertised, I would be a happy camper. That, in conjunction with effect pre-rendering, could make DP pretty light on its heels.

Also, I have to wonder if the redesigned interface is a sign that MOTU has undergone a code overhaul. I haven't seen it yet ••“ the changes could be superficial ••“ but it sounds unlikely they could redo the GUI without getting their hands seriously dirty.

Then there is support for native formats other than SD2, non-realtime VI bouncing and AU side-chaining. All this leads me to believe MAS has undergone some serious surgery.

If DP6 has region based editing for MIDI ala Logic, i will crossgrade instead of upgrade to LS8.This is the primary reason that I will not go for DP, well a demo would be nice too!

I can't believe that nobody has a picture of the interface! That tells me at least that the presentation was so great that everyone took leave of their senses for a while. That's a good sign.

I want to think the same thing, but my son (a programmer) tells me that GUI issues can be changed without digging too deeply. Still, I get the feeling that symbolically they might be saying "out with the old; in with the new." We may not know until we get our hands on it. I'm sure once we use it we'll be able to tell if there are any deep programming changes in it. It has behaviors that reflect the programmers' choices, and it's impossible not to "feel" those choices as you use it and it responds.

god, please i hope it doesn't look like that..

the thing that DP has *always* had over the competition is the tasteful GUI... all grey and easy on the eyes.... look at Cubase.. how the hell can people stare at that environment without going crazy! Logic, too, is getting out of hand..

if MOTU turns DP into a rainbow-blast of a GUI it will be a sad, sad day...

KEEP IT ELEGANT, MOTU!!!
I agree. I always thought DP's GUI is the best

I'm excited too... I really hope multiple takes while loop recording MIDI (same way audio works for each pass) gets implemented.

I, once more, agree!

I hope the GUI is gooey. OK, bad pun. I'm looking forward to a scalable Tracks Overview as even on my 23" Cinema, that text is tiny! Please, some screenshots!

If any of you get a chance to inquire about the status of DAE with DP6 and post your results here, I would be very grateful.
Mostly I'm interested if they are going to finish implementing the rest of the DAE features for DP6 i.e. RTAS on AUX etc.

This is indeed nice news. I'll reserve judgement till I hear them, but good for Motu for finally aiming for a decent compressor and convolution verb plug-in. It would be even cooler if they fixed stuff like the long standing disappearing-MIDI-notes-in-the-drum-editor problem, but one can only hope for so much.

This is the biggest...and nearly only...reason I do not even use DP5 right now. My stupid composing workflow is so warped from using different apps...

I love being able to work with MIDI regions, and cycle record MIDI to produce takes OR merge, my choice. And then...edit at region level. Merge regions, cut regions, etc. I really wish someone would allow us the freedom to work with MIDI in the same ways we can audio (typically region level).

All DP6 needs to pull me back is MIDI region editing, MIDI cycle record merge OR take, and better performance. I do not even care if it is 1/2 to 2/3 of the efficiency of Logic; heck, that would be a blessing compared to now, and would be better than PT or Cubase does (currently).

Sorry to seem rantish...been waiting to DP to "get there" since I last used it regularly at ver 3.x..please don't beat me...

Of course the competition will probably refer to this release as "Deep Six" :-(.
