No problem... I'm always repeating myself, saying the same thing again, restating things, and sometimes even repeating myself.

By the way, who told you that there would be new Waves updaters for DP next month? (March?) I could not get anyone at Waves to commit to a date, though they were very encouraging and sounded sincere when saying it would be 'very soon.'

If that's reliable info, then that's really good news!

Hi, on another forum. It seemed reliable, and lets face it: they're well overdue for some DP fixen.

Cheers, Phil

so let me get this straight... i've been reading for 3 days about waves on various forums. if i buy the waves RenMaxx bundle now, in a year a have to pay more money to keep using it on my computer? or more money just to upgrade to the next version?

excuse me if i sound dizzy But my head is spinning with a thousand unfamiliar acronyms (TUA) lately.

speaking of... what does WUP stand for?

You only have to pay to upgrade to the next version, pretty much like most other software companies.
DP 9.52, Max OS 10.11, Mac Pro (early 2008), 2x2.8 dual quad core.

Waves Update Plan. When you first buy Waves plugs, you'll (usually) receive at least a one year WUP. It'll expire after that in which you'll then have to pay a fee to renew it. As long as you're under WUP, any update that they may provide during this period will be of no charge to you. You are never obligated to renew your WUP. But once your WUP expires, you won't be able to get any updates or tech support.

I don't think the WUP renewal fee for Renn Max will be that much of a burden.

Wup isn't essential until upgrades come out. For instance, moving from G-series (PPC) Macs to Intel Macs requires that you upgrade your Waves plugins. Period. There's no way around it if you want to keep using Waves. And to do that, you have to pay for WUP. But in ten years of use, the WUP will not cost as much as your original cash layout. I'd guess that you will double the cost of your plugins about every 15 years. That's not too bad, and on some level I feel that the creators of your plugins deserve that.

In 20 years of Digital Performer (and "Performer" before it), I've probably paid MOTU the cost of the whole package at least once if not twice extra via upgrades. I think that's pretty standard across the industry. Waves gets criticized because they make you pay for the years you skipped if you go away and come back. Well, they hold the cards in this game. For me, it's worth it. But it's sure hard to send money for something you're already using. :D It never gets any easier! You just bite the bullet and do it.
