A progress bar when importing.

As it stands now, there is no feedback whatsoever when importing. And if you are importing lots of stuff or large files, or reading from a CD, it can take a lot of time! Did DP crash? Who knows?

PT has this, we need it too.

Faster Saving.

Large DP sessions take forever to save. Large sessions in PT are far far quicker. Usually instant. This is a prblem because it is a workflow killer, and when deep into it, workflow is everything.

MS Word has a "fast save" feature, where is saves just the changes, as opposed to re-writing the entire file. Maybe something like that could work here.

A built-in mixdown deck.

If you run a mix, either real-time or bounce-to-disk, AND you have plugins on the master fader, there is currently no way to play back this mix without it going through the master fader plugins again. It would be nice to have as "2-trk return", like real consoles have, that would let you listen to mixes (or anything else routed to it) that would BYPASS the entire master fader section. This would not only allow you to listen back to your mixes (like a real studio console does), but allow allow one to import other stuff into DP and listen to it with any additional processing, i.e., listen to imported CD tracks for comparison with your current mix. As it stands now, that is impossible because EVERYTHING must go through the master fader, with it's plugins.

The master fader strip should also gain a "2-trk" return" toggle, like a real console, so as to "mute" everything else when you play back your mix.

The actual implementation of this is to merely rout the audio to the same pair of outputs, but POST master fader section. Like a real console. This should not be hard to code. Perhaps a list-view type window to manage your mixes would be a nice touch too.

I'm not sure I understand that.
I get a progress bar when Importing.
Sometimes it takes A few seconds to appear, but it's always there.

Let me clarify. There are some cases where that does indeed happen, but others not. Like if you drag a bunch of files from the Finder into the Soundbites window. Nada. And if they require translation of some kind, it can be lengthy. Wav files from a DVD data disc? Crash? Go get lunch? Reboot? Who knows....

Just for my own curiosity I copied 2.6gbs worth of wav files from
AudioFinder to DP.
(This is from a hardrive not a DVD) it took 6minutes.
The progress bar didn't fire up.
I would have hated to do that from a DVD.
Your point is taken.
DP reeallly needs to support Wave/AIFF files natively.
(as other people have pointed out.)

I don't know if this has been said before but...
A multi-speed fast forward and rewind. I like other software that speeds up the ff or rw when you hit the button again. While using my controller, the ff and rw speeds in DP are brutally slow and there is no way to speed it up that I've found, other than using the mouse to drag the song position wiper to the spot more quickly. It would be nice though to be able to ff/rw at a faster rate using the transport buttons on any controller as that is what they are there for...

What controller are you using? This works just fine with a Mackie Control Universal.

Rainmaker
DP has Fast Rewind, Slow Rewind, Slow Forward, and Fast Forward buttons.

- In the Control Panel, they're to the left & right of the position bar, which is right below the main transport controls.

- Their default key bindings are on the number pad: 4, 5, 6, and +.

Not sure offhand how they map by default to different control surfaces, but some controls allow for a few user-assignable buttons.

The variable speed rewind and forward are probably not what Rainmaker had in mind. The 5&6 keys are for a very slow forward and back, just a little faster than regular play. The 4&+ keys just aren't as fast as they could be. Imagine the forward and reverse in our DVD player on the Mac. Type COMMAND-Rt ARROW, and it will fast forward at 4x. Type it again, and it jumps to 8x. Then 16x and 32x. That would actually be very useful in DP.

Mine is a very simple addition...I would love to be able to "hide tracks". For example, when I have a a dialogue track (extracted from a QuickTime movie) it would be nice not to have to "de-select it" when you highlight a column of measures for editing (transposition)

Toast 7 will support audio file coversions to AAC. (Go to www.thinksecret.com for more info on Toast 7.) Why not DP? AAC sounds WAY better than MP3, and is the format of the iTunes Music Store. All my clients with iPods much prefer I give them files in this format. If someone asks me to email them a mix, AAC is a far better choice than MP3!

I know I repeat myself , and it's not DP related (it's Cue mix related)
but I need a master volume for the whole PCI output.

So I can leave the master in DP to 0db
So the bell in Toast won't blowup my speakers
So my ears won't bleed because I forgot I just made a BTD , and pushed "play"

So there would be only one to rule them all ;)
