Please know that comment wasn't aimed at you Kubi. I have great respect for your well-reasoned input, not to mention your great DP chops and very cool music.Kubi wrote:Oh, just for the record, I certainly am NOT one of the people who doubt null tests. If it nulls it's identical, and any perceived differences will have to be explained otherwise (mind got tricked, playback situation differs in ways not considered, null test was flawed and files don't actually null, or something like that.)

mixerless here as well. don't really miss it, having the 828MK3 and CueMix.Kubi wrote:Been mixerless for a few years now and never looked back.

Re: How many folks are using DP Mixerless?
I'm still using my 01V96v2 mixer. Main reason being that my Digi002 doesn't have facility like cuemix in MOTU interface. Cuemix is such great invention!!!
But I have to use ProTools on many projects that I'm forced to use a Digi interface.
I still think using a mixer is convenient at some time, but I think it's not a must now I have to agree.

I've been using a Lexicon box (MPX550) with CueMix from the first day I got the 828mkII years ago. It works great for adding "talent" to tracking vocalists. I used to run it from the SPPDF I/O, but have another box on that bus now, so am using analog I/O. Because Altiverb is so fine, I can't remember the last time I used the Lex to mix., but it is available on an aux send if I ever need it.wylie1 wrote:Hey HCMarkus: I was wondering how your making out with the transition.

Re: How many folks are using DP Mixerless?
I'm mixerless in a sense that I don't have a mixer but I do not mix in a box.
After dozens of test with several different devices, included a couple of SSL and Amek-Neve mixers, few years ago I've got a Sumo http://www.audient.com/audient/product/sumo and Centro http://www.audient.com/audient/product/centro
I know there are many school of thought about this subject. In my experience I think I've found the right balance between using the digital world (seq, automation n plugs), and the analog one, adding some meat through the Sumo. I do not miss a mixer and won't definitely mix in the box.

I've been mixerless for many years but more recently I've been looking for a good talkback mix set up. As in a mic at the "mixer" position so I can talkback to the band in the recording room. Surely some company makes a nice low-profile mic with a button to turn it on and off. Maybe a latchable on/off button. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks Much,

That Centro box looks good. It's nice that the industry is making better hardware that directly interfaces with DAWs and provides the best of both digital and analog worlds.danworks wrote:I'm mixerless in a sense that I don't have a mixer but I do not mix in a box.

Various monitor controllers include this functionality... big knob, monitor station, etc.MartinBaird wrote:I've been mixerless for many years but more recently I've been looking for a good talkback mix set up. Yes, and I'd buy one if I didn't have a new Benchmark DAC1 as my digital to analog converter feeding my monitors directly. Putting anything else in the path would just degrade the sound. That's why I'd love to find something super simple.

I'm waiting for the UAD 3 to come out and have vintage desk emulation ITB! When I was @ the Arts Institute of Seattle I used to cringe @ the fact I had to reach across the console to mix and yes, you do get lazy working ITB and having access to everything instantly you get spoiled but the forgiving nature of a high end console has it's advantages... but if you watch your levels ITB you can get the width and depth back... I'm learning new tricks all the time that's for sure! Especially that TRIM plug!

I have the BS's and I was wondering Kubi, did you purchase the sub alone or as a 2:1 system?Kubi wrote: While I have no experiences with the Central Station, I had a somewhat comparable situation with the Bluesky Sub 8 (not exactly a Behringer-type brand.) I wanted to use its internal crossovers to patch in my NS10s. But in doing so they lost a good amount of their excellent transient response (which is one of the main reasons I like monitoring on them.) And with that a bit of imaging goes by the wayside as well.
I believe the results would be a bit different since the satellites are designed for the slopes and filter cutoff points of the outputs on those subs... I think a more full spectrum would be key to the NS10's. By the way, how do you like your BS's?

Centro is great, it features a lot of analog and digital I/O, a sub control which I use and love using a Genelec, and it has very nice cue monitoring system for a one-man-producer-musician (like many of us), that need to play, record and adjust the level - at the same time - of the background music vs the recording source, with latency = 0.Shooshie wrote:That Centro box looks good. Sumo is an amazing summing system, with a very pleasant and effective analog comp-lim at the end of the chain. At blind test with mixes passed though Sumo, SSL J9000 and a Amek 9098, both used like a summing system, (with sixteen faders at 0db), no one could easily say "… yeah, this one is the SSL". For me that was enough.
Disclaimer: I don't work for Audient!

But as I said before, I've tried so many different solutions that I whenever I can, I encourage people to try it. If you don't have budget problem, the same company packed Sumo, Centro and the preamp series into Zen http://www.audient.com/audient/product/zen.
