I'm being less vocal about it on KVR, but on Motunation I want you all to know that using your IK Jam Points brings the cost down to $25. I suppose if you don't have any IK Jam Points then this doesn't help you. But anyone who has purchased anything from IK over the past 2 years will have some Jam Points in their account, and you can use Jam Points to cover 50% of any IK purchase.

I joined once through eSoundz (at $50, to get the eSounds bonus), and then once through IK for $25. I will join again for another $25.

At this point I think I should probably be more vocal about this Jam Points advantage, because I dare say that we will hit 5000 much more easily when more people realize that this can be a $25 investment rather than a $50 investment.

Ahh right. Well, I only have $5 in Jam Points right now, but I guess $44 is better than $49. I'd have to buy the second membership direct with IK instead of eSoundz right... but then I'd forfeit the bonus pack that eSoundz throws in. Although don't know if you can buy it more than once through eSoundz.

You can buy as many times as you like through eSoundz, for an extra freebie each time. If you don't have Jam Points (or if you only have $5 in Jam Points) it is definitely better to buy through eSoundz so that you can get an extra pack. Squids also reports there is another surprise coming for those who ordered through eSoundz. It may be an extra pack for each time you ordered through them, or some other new bonus pack. Not sure yet.

I just joined for the third time through IK. I still have around $130 Jam Points because I have bought a lot of stuff from IK over the years... I think I have all of their software products minus the complete version of Miroslav.

IK was very generous when they gave all of their customers retroactive Jam Points. Imagine how thrilled I was to suddenly have $189 free IK dollars sitting in my account. And to actually use them in a Group Buy and grab 6 or 7 packs for $25 blows my mind.

Interesting. I own Classik Studio Reverbs and T-RacKs 1.0 and don't think I ever got an points for those.

Ahhh... well the retroactive Jam Points were only for what you purchased over the last 2 years. Both of those you mentioned are older products which you probably bought before the winter of 2007.

Jam Points have been assigned for about 6 months now, so if you purchased and registered either of those items in the past 2.5 years (and you can double check this in your IK account at IK User Area > Authorizations) then I'll bet an e-mail to customer support will get them added for you.

I'm a little late to the party here but I see this group buy is getting pretty exciting.

Now I'm a little slow at times so bear with me here, I need it to be spelled out. I don't own SampleTank so does it cost me $49 for SampleTank + another $49 for the 5 libraries? (or is it 6 libraries?) Or is it $49 if I buy SampleTank and get 5 (or 6) libraries free? AND how does the SampleTank 2 XT with 1GB free sounds participate in this?

I'm ready to jump on board here for $49. If it's $98 I may need some arm twisting.

Indeed. ST + 6 libraries + 1GB soundset from IK (which has instruments from lots of different collections, like SampleMoog, SampleTron, Miroslav and other eSoundz stuff).

And if you have Jam Points on IK, you can join twice for $50 for double the libraries.

And BTW, it is looking like we will hit 7x1. Things are racing along, and a new e-mail just went out today. Only about 700 people needed to hit that mark in the last week, and we are going at a pace which should easily meet that mark.

Well, I'm getting a handle on using the loops in Sample Tank. The answer for me is to create a DP clippings window and then drag the MIDI loops from the clippings window onto the MIDI track in the Track Overview. They're named the same as the instrument. A couple things I found:

1) By accident when looking to pitch shift the loop downward to play at same pitch regardless of my sequence tempo, I clicked the "Synth" parameter section and set the "Mode" to "PS/TS" and seems that when I drag a loop onto the timeline, Sample Tank compensates so it's at the original pitch regardless of tempo? That works.

2) One minor qibble: When IK Multimedia numbered these loops some start out named "85_" or "97_" and others are "100_" or "104_". The browser in Sample Tank doesn't sort intelligently, so "100_" for example will appear higher on the listing than "85_". I'm going through and attaching a leading "zero" to these instruments/loops with a two digit prefix.

Other than that, using DP's nifty Clippings feature, this will be easy!

Sounds like a good idea, and I think I'll follow suit in the most basic of ways, by simply creating a clipping window with the loop pack folders in them. On the occasions where I actually need the MIDI all I will have to do is to click on the folder, find the loop and then drag it via the Finder. Almost no setup time in that.

These are Sonic Reality products, so they are to blame for not naming the files more intelligently given the way SampleTank treats the files. But it is IK Multimedia who is responsible for making their products more intelligent... so both companies are responsible.

The one thing that irritates me across the ENTIRE RANGE of IK Multimedia products (including Amplitube and T-Racks and everything) is the poor implimentation of naming files when you save them. I don't know what the f$#%k conventions their programmers are using for that stuff, because it certainly doesn't fall into normal Mac procedure. You can't copy and paste file names when saving, you have to manually backspace in order to erase letters, and numerous other handicaps and quirks make it much less smooth than it should be. Not a very user-friendly naming system, and I am surprised that it hasn't been updated with the release of new products.

I've noticed lately that both Finder and iTunes are behaving more intelligently with regards to listing numbered items in proper order without having to add a zero to the single digit numbers. It is definitely nice not to have to worry about that.

zed - thanks for the information and constructive thoughts. I've compiled them (and the issue about sorting the presets with double-digit BPM) and sent to people here.
