Gee whiz!

I've hardly ever have any problems since the very beginning with MOTU. I always get the feeling that some members here have nothing BUT trouble.

I guess that comes down to peripherals and the hundreds of possible configurations out there. Me, I've got 6.01 running on an Intel iMac with OS 10.5.6 perfectly ... very stable and not a single problem with any project: but then I don't have much in the way of peripherals.

NI Bandstand doesn't work, but it doesn't work in standalone mode either – so methinks the problems are with them and not MOTU. Yes, MOTU sometimes seem tardy, but they're not on their lonesome in the computer world (Apple can be very secretive and unforthcoming at times too).

I guess the current GUI is a bit less than 'wow' … but I can live with it. In fact, I don't think about it much one way or the other: I just record and mix and burn. If it gets better in a later version, that'll be a bonus.

Quickscribe is the worst feature for me: so many things wrong I hardly know where to start. But changing the 'options' in 6 different windows without a preview mode or links to others from within any one of them would be one of them. Also, not being able to view a score in a 'transposed' view (for Eb and Bb instruments) is a real problem for me. I like to play back a file and play along on my alto sax – but if I'm reading from Quickscribe, I have to transpose in my head. I guess I should have better skills there, but I don't, so a transpose view (like Sibelius) would be excellent. And there's my suggestions for 6.02.

So, that's my thrupence-worth for the day. I started to feel left out of the group whinge, so thought I should be proactive and join in :D I hate being the one guy out!

But I'm happy with DP, and can't see me changing any time soon.

MOTU said it couldn't offer me a beta-testing position, but that I could claim "Lifer" status if I diligently purchased and installed each incarnation, so that's what I do.

Now, to find that In-Car-Nation they spoke of...

Mac 2012 12C Cheese Grater, OSX 10.13.6
MOTU DP8.07, MachFive 3.2.1, MIDI Express XT, 24I/O
Novation, Yamaha & Roland Synths, Guitar & Bass, Kemper Rack

Well... I am home in San Diego now but I this morning when I was still up in Anaheim I stopped in at the show and I decided to settle this once and for all. A MOTU person confirmed for me unequivocally that they were indeed running the demo with a pre-release version of DP 6.02 which contains A LOT of improvements and fixes and that it's not going to be very long until it's released. I'd say probably a month or less.

Hehehe... TODAY!!! I very pointedly asked about this and told a MOTU person there was all sorts of silliness going on here on this board. He specifically confirmed that they were running a late-stage beta of 6.02 during the NAMM show and it should probably be a matter of a few weeks before it's out.

What will the nay sayers have to say then? I mean, we could loose half the members here if MOTU releases a 6.02 as good as 5.13. I also agree that it is NI with the inherent Leopard problems, not MOTU, per se. And while some folks insist Leopard is to blame and will NEVER hit their drives, I still maintain it is a great OS - even on a PPC.

Thanks for the report James. Sorry I couldn't pizza and beer you and the guys (again) this year. Perhaps a "uniy-fest" in LA is in order for 2009? :)

That's great news, and it would make a great Valentine's Day present to us. :D Wait... wasn't there a Valentine's Day Massacre? Oh, never mind that. We know MOTU's after our hearts, not just our minds. I'm going to look for it around Valentine's Day!

Thanks, James,
