Problem starting up my Power Mac G5

Post by thereaktor »

After trying the usual stuff:
- Resetting the PRAM
- Resetting the SMU/PSU
My G5 2.7 just won't start up.
- No Chimes
Just now and then the fans going on.

Any advise of what I can try before bringing the beast to the shop.
Of curse this happen 3 month after my warranty expire and I don't have applecare.

Thanx

Hi

I would try to start it up from the OSX install disk.
And If that would not work. Then it will be time to take
your computer to repair shop.

Thanx Jarox,

But it's a really strange behaviour I have. I was able to have the mac start up after waiting 5 min. But then when I wanted to start again from the cd. It didn't want to boot anymore.
Will spend the afternoon trying but I'm afraid I ran out of options.

bad power supply maybe? i thought some G5 computers suffered from flaky power supplies for awhile...though i think those just blew up entirely with a loud bang upon powerup.

i don't see how the internal battery on a G5 could be dead yet...

do you have the means to check the PSU voltage output levels?
