I must be a moron - How to place track specific text

Post by mdripps1 »

I'm looking for a way to add text to a track, other than the comments window in DP 5. I see on MIDI.org that there's a Lyric Meta Event Definition, though I don't see how I can add lyrics. Can this be done in DP? I sure as heck can't find it and haven't received an email reply from MOTU.

Here's what I'd like to do:

Enter a text event anywhere in a MIDI track (bar.beat.tick res)
Have that event export with a MIDI file
Have that event appear only on that track in the exported MIDI file

Can someone tell me how to do this in DP? I feel there must be a way, but I can't seem to find it anywhere.

I feel so dumb....:?

Ok, I just spoke with MOTU: Adding text events to specific MIDI tracks (other than comments window) cannot be done...

I have been asking for this for two years. Nobody listens in Beantown.
I also mentioned it on the Nuendo forum with many saying how nice it would be for so many reasons.

My request allowed type on any tracks.

It escapes me why track annotation on such a deep production DAW must take a back seat. It's fine that we can insert general user text info on each track in the Track Columns, but having that info at a glance right on each track would be a great help.

I know much talk has been going on about those wanting the ability to increase the size of the Tracks Overview vs those who like the Tracks Overview as is. But, such annotations would, I think, require some vertical zoom capabilities be added to the TO-- and that the annotations would be extremely helpful were they to be part of the Overview.

PS: mdripps1? a moron? quite the opposite!

What a brilliant topic mdripps. I too would like to insert track specific Text/Meta events and also see them in the graphic window.

Studio Vision Pro handles this easily. javascript:emoticon('') I'm just sain'...

Maybe this could be in an upcoming update ?

DP programmers could do everyone a favour if they looked at Vision DSP or Studio Vision - a lot of good things could be borrowed to make DP more user friendly. I like DP now but it still has some niggles for me...
