Update:

Uninstalled mLAN, DP, and Reason (and Tracktion, which I'd forgotten I had on my machine), manually deleting all the .bundle files I could find. Re-downloaded and re-installed mLAN, then Reason 3.0.5. Re-installed DP5.1 without installing DP4.5. Even though I have an upgrade copy of 5.1, the uninstaller apparently didn't take out my authorization or any of my prefs. The program started right up and all my audio setup info was intact.

Two crash-free sessions with DP and Reason thus far, each clocking in at about two and a half hours. Crossing fingers that it continues.

Shouldn't have said anything. :? An hour into today's session, back to crashville every five minutes.

Guess I am giving up on DP until 5.1.1. I've been using DP since version 2, but I'm starting to wish I'd switched to Logic when I got the MacBook.

i don't know whether to be relieved or disappointed (that you're still crashing.) glad you got some good uninterrupted work yesterday.

i'm still crashing too. did make a few changes in energy saver settings that were wrong (now hard drive is set not to spin down) but am still getting random crashes.

am learning to hit "command + S" about every keystroke, that way when i crash evert 10 minutes, at least i haven't lost any work, just momentum and focus.

anyone using 10.4.6 with 5.1 and a macbook?

i'm using 10.4.7 and 5.1 on a macbook, and have yet to see a crash, other than when doing things that one would expect to cause one (such as renegade plugs, etc).
for normal operations, it seems to work okay. i've loaded 5.01 projects, 4.61 projects, played back audio, recorded MIDI, used vi's, plugs, etc etc.
vi's: albino3, blue, ivory, model12
plugs: wavearts (the 5pack), metric halo channelstrip, motu (delay, mweq, trim), izotope (ozone, trash, spectron). no waves here.
this is with a traveler (1.4.1 driver, 1.0.7 fw) and a novation x-station25 (basically just being used as a MIDI controller). no drives on the firewire (just the traveler).

i'm not sure what the surround thread crashing is...but have faith that with magicdave on the case...it will be a short-lived issue.

I'm having the same exact problems here with my MacBookPro, OS 10.4.7, DP5.1. Random crashes, bounce to disk is unusable. Had a 2 hour session today and I got 5 crashes. Rotten.

I'm using all stock plugs. Trim, EQ, and MW limiter to be exact. automation, bussing, basic stuff. I've been having this problem for awhile and have been getting nowhere troubleshooting it. Just want to toss my name into the hat here. If not for the current problems, DP 5.1 would be a great audio tool on the MacBookPro. Very fast.

I'm getting ready to have to punt for the near term. The application crashes and the broken bounces are bad enough... but the gray-screen operating-system lockups make the entire thing infuriating.

I'm going to punt back to Ableton Live (cringe). Pressing Live hard seems to work a lot better than DP5.1 on Intel, at this point. I've seen a gray-screen lockup or two there... But, they seem to be less frequent. If the gray-screen lockups become a problem with Ableton, too... Well, then I'm punting all the way back to Windows. :(

Am I expecting too much from a Mac Mini? It's a 1.66ghz Core Duo with 2gigs of RAM. Projects with 10 or so tracks and a couple (literally like 2 or 3 TrackPlugs) of WaveArts plugins send the thing over the edge. There's usually a definite line where adding one more track, or one more TrackPlug is a fatal exercise.

An earlier generation single-core 2.0ghz Pentium M Dell Laptop, with 1gig of RAM, running the same Mackie Onyx 400F interface and Ableton Live or CubaseSX is a lot more capable.

I run almost exclusively at 24bit/96khz.

Hi everyone,

Nothing new...

Just a post to say that I've got the same problems...

-DP5 crashes occasionally (sometimes every 2 min, sometimes it's ok for 30 min) and then the OS ask me if I want to restart DP... (and I've got a log like Misterfin...)
-Sometimes when I record a track, the tempo slow down and goes wonky... I've got some "blik", like it was Aphex Twin on my Mac... :D

Very frustrating!!!

It seems that the people having this problem run all on 10.4.7...
Any news about that?
If no one try before, I will re-install my Mac this week-end (and don't apply the Apple's update), and tell you what happens...

(apologies for my english... usually I speak french...)

Bertrand.

Update: No progress on the crashing. I sent an email to MOTU tech support on Tuesday 9/12 at 1.15pm Pacific time.

I'm still waiting for a reply.

What the heck? Is MOTU tech support always this unresponsive or am I just Super Lucky Guy this week? They sure replied fast enough when they were selling me the ugrade... :x

Finally had to join Unicornation because i am having the same problems with crashes that you've all been having and need help.

One thing that i'm getting is whenever i try to open the Sounbites window - DP crashes. That simple. Old projects, new projects - attempt to open Soundbites window = crash.

maybe you'd be interested in looking at your crash report, find which thread crashed, and perhaps post it here and send it in to motu.

i don't really know how to read them, but there does seem be some consistencies between many of our crashes.

this will create more data for the motu techs to explore, and will hopefully make the next patch (5.1.1?) more complete/stable.

i haven't heard anything back from them for a week but with all the users who're finding similar crash info i trust they're working on a fix and will release a fix.

just wanted to tell you mini/imac guys that I'm in the same boat with a 3ghz mac pro with 2 gigs of ram etc... not many crashes, but bounce to track is awful - like a previous poster noted, gaps in audio, tracks dropped, etc...

if i figure anything out, i'll be on here.

I'm also getting whack bounces. But i found that when i switched the output file type from aiff to wav it actually worked!!

So from there i got what i needed out of DP for the moment (ie. a mixed song). For now i'm taking time off from DP and learning Melodyne. Hopefully when i need DP again there will be an update available. If not, maybe i'll try the four leaf clover jpeg idea that i got from another thread ; )
