Pls help me choose a soundcard!!!

Post by Tombolino »

I used to use an Aardvark Q10. Swithced to Mac, got tired of Windows, Aardvark went under, wont work on Mac anyway.

So I need a new soundcard/interface.

Aardvark sounded good to me. Im a home studio guy, not a pro studio, but I do want to strive for my stuff to sound good. Normally its just me, plug in guitar, sing on mike etc. Maybe one day I will have people start coming over but not for now> for now I dont gig at all, I work and go to school.

For software I use Ableton Live.

So, many people advise me on different soundcards:

Digi 002 Rack
Motu traveller
RME Fireface
Mackie 1620 with Firewire card in back

Also, a couple of my friends obsess over analog feel. One says I should get the Mackie 1620 because its an analog mixer+FW..... or the RME...... and he swears the Digi pres are not that good. My other buddy says I wont be using the Mackie mixer knobs, the RME is too expensive for the amount of inputs, and that I should get Digi rack and get a Tube preamp thing to warm up signal.

Dont know much about MOTU

This is driving me crazy!!!

Your opinion welcome and also if you can compare any of these in quiality to the Aardvark I use to use.
I Mac Intel Core Duo, 512 Mhgz, Focusrite Compressor, Korg Karma, Line 6 POD, guitars
