Go > Network - Why does it quit half the time?

Post by James Steele »

Just have a question. How come half of the time when I launch the Network browser from the Finder "Go" menu... have the time it flashes quickly and quits. If I restart, and try it before doing anything else on the Mac it will usually then work and allow me to connect to another Mac on my network.

I've had this happen so often on so many Macs, I've taken it for granted, but it's annoying. Does this happen to anyone else? Is it a known issue? Can Apple fix this?

james, I've noticed this, too.

The only fix I know of is to drag a fresh alias into the Go menu, or start from the finder alias.

I've had considerable trouble in 10.4.7 with various aliases in the Dock going dead. Reboot or repair permissions and rebooting seems to fix things, at least for a while. Happened more in 10.4.5.

Another oddity of late: OSX forgets my keychain passwords, including U-nation's among others. Strange.

I've never had it quit on me, but I've probably only used it a handful of times. I browse the network mostly from a finder window, and the only real complaint I have is that it too often takes too long to refresh the list of available servers or computers on the network.
Could it be a firewall issue or something along those lines, I wonder? Such as the built-in OSX firewall, I mean. I don't use it, so I'm not aware of possible quirks.

James, I just tried it myself and it does the the same thing here. I usually don't use the Go menu to access my network so I never noticed this until you pointed it out. Seems like a bug to me.
