DP5 startup ERROR!!!

Post by BaSSic »

Hey guys,
I'm getting a MacOS Unecpected Error (-8796) when starting up DP5. I've installed it yesterday, and reinstalled it today (trashed preferences and everything), and I still get this message. After that Audio Setup is switched to MIDI Only, and I have to change it to Motu Audio Sysytem, every time I start DP5.
I've tried opening DP 4.6, and everything is working normaly...so I don't really know what's happening. I've repaired permission a couple of times before and after installation.

I forgot to add that when I try to select DAE in audio setup, DP also says Unexpected Error (-2804)...

Sounds like maybe you need to reinstall DAE, or perhaps there is a more recent version of DAE?

Does DP5 open normally if you ahve MOTU Audio System as your choice?

No. It look as if it's ignoring me, and it always shows me the error message at the startup and then switches to MIDI Only, and then I hace to switch it to MOTU again.

Why would you need DAE if you have a MOTU Traveler? I beleive you only need DAE if you are using a high-end (that is, non-LE) digidesign interface.

It kinda also sounds to me that you might want to try to do the standard OS X maintenance things. . .repairing permissions, repairing hard drive, w Disk Utility. I see you already repaired permissions. . .what about hard drive? More on that here:

cfragNoLibraryErr = -2804, /* The named library was not found.*/

kATSUInvalidFontErr = -8796, /* Used when an attempt was made to use an invalid font ID.*/

Very weird errors to be getting. I haven't seen these before. The symptoms and errors suggest that DP is looking for OS code that it can't find or that has been corrupted somehow.

What version of OS are you running? DP5 needs a minimum of 10.3.7 and we recommend 10.3.9 or higher.
Is it a US OS install or a different language?
Have you tried a re-install of DP5 (long shot guess but and easy thing to try)

I suspect that if you re-installed the OS the error would go away. personally I try to avoid re-installing the OS if I can help it. Any other symptoms you can report?

I'm with emulatorloo on this one. Why on earth would you use DAE if you're using a Motu Traveler? DAE really shouldn't even come into the picture.

Acctually...I'm not using DAE...my reply wasn't very clrea. The problem is that when I start DP it shows me a OS Error -8796, and the it disables audio...I then have to go to Setup and set it to MOTU Audio System , after that everything is working fine...but after I finish and turn DP off...then next time I start it up it, I have to do same thing again...it looks as if it wont remember my setup...DP 4.5 work without any problem. I've tried repairing permissions and disk repair...even ran TechTool Pro, repaired everything with that...but nothing seems to work. I've tried to reinstall DP5, and everything...

Same Unexpected Error (-8796)
when opening Drum Editor, Audio bundles Meter Bridge or Consolidated Window.
Meter Bridge, Consolidated Window & Drum Editor are completely blank.
in Audio Bundles, only the buttons at the bottom of the window are visible (Add, Add Multiples etc.)

Beside these problems, it seems to work just fine.
DP5.01 installed, 828mkII (latest driver installed) OSX 10.4.6 (International English)

Any solution for the problem ?

Thanks

same symptoms here and so far 3 days + trying to fix. 4.6.1 runing smooth. G4 dual gig, 896 reinstalled 10 times, removing prefs w/ terminal etc. and 10.4.7. Can't believe I paid 2 clams for this aggravation ! I assumed they would have it together by now and bought it. I'm trying to avoid redoing os also.
