This is such an odd question, especially in view of your musical styles!

You got drums, gtr and bass presets, + a pretty good piano and organ in M5. Everything you need for rock is there; I'm at a loss to see what answer you are expecting here.

The best way is for you to figure out for yourself what you like/don't like by writing a simple track and seeing how the instruments fit in. If you are not satisfied with a preset then add some effects and tweak to taste and save it as a new preset.

Anyway, good luck!

Not many! I have found the stock Mach 5 sounds ranging from totally useless ie: the acoustic drum kits ,a total waste of disc space,to somewhat usable. Not a very impressive collection of sounds as far as I"m concerned. I've been wanting to say that for some time.Though it doesn't make me feel a whole lot better, after having paid for it.

I agree. I bought Mach 5 a couple of days ago and am very disappointed with most of the sounds that are included. I like the piano, and a couple of the acoustic guitars, but many of the other sounds are WEAK. I have no experience with samplers, but sure hope that version 2 is a free upgrade, includes an awesome library, and does a better job of importing other formats (based upon what I've read).

Actually the import function on the current version is quite good. I've built up a huge library from Kurzweil, EXS, and Akai samples.

I am new at this.... Is there one format that's preferable? I'd like to expand my library of drum kits and percussion sounds... Can anyone recommend some sample CDs for this purpose? Thanks.

First and foremost, the Bosendorfer! It's a really great sounding piano. I use it for a lot of stuff.

I am going to answer my own question here... I just got the Plugsound Vol 3 disk (drums and percussion elements). Many, many drum kits and virtually every percussion instrument known to man. Sounds great, and a good deal at $89 I think.

Are you able to get Plugsound to bounce to disk? If so how?
I always have to do a realtime bounce..

I also have Vol 3 and agree, the drums sound great! Any particular faves?

Unfortunately the new version of Plugsound that is coming out will
require iLok, which means I won't be upgrading :(
