must-have vi's?

To clarify...i'm not looking for "retro emulators"...i'm after versatile, capable unique synths.
what i have thus far:
dfhs
blue (man, i LOVE this thing)
applied acoustic systems ultimate analog
luxonix ravity (s)
so, drums, analogs, and fm are reasonably covered...
mx-4 is definitely on the list, as is either cube2, or cameleon (suggestions betwixt the two?).
what else would i need to cover "all the bases"?

Just curious. money no object...

which are super-cool, but there are alternatives.

What? How can it be must-have when at this point in time it's still a can't-have? There isn't even a ship date for it yet.

If you're a salesperson, please label yourself as such, Musnoz from Paris, home of the UVI engine.

Anyway...

I have a bunch of VIs, all of which suit different needs, but the work horse among the pack: BFD. Hands down.

I'm pretty reliant on EWQLSO Gold, QL Stormdrum and Atmosphere for work though.

Still, for genre versatility and great sound: BFD

Well, piano is pretty retro, going back to the 17th century.

Just an excuse to plug Ivory, one of my favorite VIs of all time. They really got it right in version 1.5.

I'm rather fond of the new VIs in DP5, especially Modulo, Bassline, Polysynth, and Proton (roughly in that order).

How I could have forgotten Virtual Studio Visitor I can't imagine. I guess 'cause it's more of an effect than a VI, though that's debatable.
IMO a must-have plug for the professional studio setting, and optional for smaller home studio.

Hey, I'm not putting you down, man. If you're somehow connected to USB, you're welcome here as far as I'm concerned. I just think you should let people know.

FWIW: I think the new Plugsound looks cool. And I use a lot of USB and UVI-related VIs.

-Cameleon 5000 (loved the demo, don't own it...yet)

-Blue: just installed the demo, and I'm impressed

-EVE 2: while it uses vintage samples, you can load three instances, blend, mangle and make weird noises, which I like

-Dimension Pro: deep synth, extensive capabilities

-daHornet: like somebody else said "it's free!" and it's cool.

-if we were listing analog emulations, I'd list the GForce Future Retro Pack (MiniMonsta, M-Tron, Oddity, impOSCar). Very nice, very affordable.

I think Blue is pretty cool. Easy to program and make sound good -- if you know some synth patch programming basics.

I can believe no one has said Reaktor 5 yet. That is by far the most versatile VI out there. Synth, sampler, noise generator, sequencer, the only limits to what it can do are your imagination and cpu (and perhaps math skills, but you can rely on other peoples knowledge).[/b]

That's the one to get! Just browse the user library (I do at least twice a week) to get an idea of what's available. Reaktor can be just about anything. It blows my mind
