can't open DP session in new user account

Post by alexweinstein000 »

i have two user accounts. one for regular life/email/web and one for Digital Performer.

for some reason a session i recorded (on my DP account) wont open any more. i get this message:

An error occurred while reading from the disk. The file "blah" was not loaded. You do not have the right privileges or the file is read only.

BUT, the same file will open on my regular account. i've checked the permissions - everything is read/write.

any ideas?

Try putting the 'blah' file in the proper location under your new user account. For example, if it's a component file, make a copy of it and make sure that it is in the same place in your new user directory as it might be in your original user directory.

Curiously, what is/are the actual name(s) of the 'blah' file(s)?

Were you EVER able to open the project before under the new user account, or did this just happen after the new user account was set up?

thanks for the speedy reply!

the file is called, "Call (ORCHESTRA) 2". other info i forgot to mention is that i'm reading this all (the entire recording session) off an external FW drive.

here's the timeline of my set up:
- PowerBook with 2 user accounts (life/music).

- tracked session on external FW drive in the "music" account.

- put new 7200rpm hard drive in the PowerBook. reinstalled Tiger. created two new accounts (life/music). installed DP5.

- started working on the session files. "call" will only open on the "life" account!

it was a pretty smooth transition considering the heart surgery my computer went through. every other song is opening up. this is the only one so far that's been giving me grief.

Had to create new user account

Post by psuescun »

Hi, I just had the same problem but with two different machines. I copied a session from the Studio‘s main workstation to my Laptop and I could not open it. The only solution was to create a user account in my Laptop identical to that on the Workstation.

I think that is a bug in DP because the users where all Administrators on their respective machines, so the privileges should be enough to open any file. It should not be necesary to create a particular user account.

Waxman had a very similar problem. He had to create another user account, for some reason his administrative privileges for his original user account got corrupted with an OSX update.
