Static/distortion about every 5 seconds

Post by rvriccardi »

I tried just about everything I can think of....I'm stumped!

I regularly get a static/distorted noise about every 5 seconds during playback or recording. This happens randomly...I'll be recording or playing back audio in Sonar or Wavelab and all of a sudden the noise starts. The only way to stop the distortion during recording or playback is to reboot my computer. The frustrating thing is that I'll be working on my music and sometimes I have to reboot 3-4 times an hour!!! :x

I don't believe the problem is my computer because I've tried 2 different computers each with different operating systems (2000 & XP), and I experienced the same static/distortion problem. I've tried both the new and older MOTU 828 drivers on both systems (XP & 2000), but nothing seems to make a difference. The only "common" element is the 828mkII itself and the firewire cable.

Has anyone else experienced this type of problem?

Thanks

I had this issue when I upgraded my MOTU drivers, and rolling back to 3.5.3.2 version of the MOTU driver cleared it up. Let me know if this works for you too.

I actually had the problem with both computers and I was using version 3.5.32. I hoped the new driver would help, but nothing changed, I still get the distortion.

Woe is me! I can only record for about 5 mins with out that interference. Im not very techie so I just havent been able to work properly. How do you mute the spidif in cuemix? Ill look in the book. Doesnt it seem stupid that you have to? Isnt it a MAJOR malfunction? Im pissed off. Glad to hear im not the only one. Thanks.
