Hello, first post, hope someone can help...
I'm sure this is something right in my face but I'm stumped. The comonents are: 1 DM24, 1 MOTU2408, 2 TDIF cables, 1 BNC Word cable, using Cubase SX, G5 Mac, OSX.
Rather than me going thru a lengthy description as to what flashing lights, error messages, etc. I've encountered, I'd just like to hear a basic walkthru as to the best, simplest way to get these components working.
This setup was working properly previously, but we had to do an emergency move from our regular studio space, and we didn't make notes as to how the components were connected (that story for another time...).
I've setup the MOTU on its own, and that works fine (can record thru analog inputs, hear back recordings, etc.), it's just syncing the DM24 with the MOTU that's the problem.
Couple related questions:
1)Is the BNC word cable required in this setup? Can I phase-lock thru just the TDIF cable?
2)I'm assuming the MOTU should be the master, but I'm open to whatever works. In any regard, should I monitor thru the MOTU or the DM24?
3) Since I only have 2 TDIF cables, should I setup TDIF A & B, or B & C on the Motu? (DM24 lists them as TDIF1, 2, & 3)
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out here...SNP

Here's where to talk about preamps, cables, microphones, monitors, etc.

hi, i have worked with a similar set up. you do need a 75ohm bnc cable for the word sync. I prefer the motu beign the master. You then connect your 2 tdif cables in A and B on your MOTU and 1 and 2 on the DM-24. I prefer monitoring through the MOTU`s analog outputs but if you want to take advantage of the DM-24`s talkbalk, route 2 outputs to the mixer for playback and connect your monitors to the mains of it.
Thanks for the quick reply (by the way, it's like 2:10 AM EST here, post shows a different time...not sure how to change that, but I digress...)
OK, got your general setup, but...BNC connects to MOTU Word OUT, into DM24 Word IN, correct? There is a toggle switch which I then set to right position, in order to set the DM24 into slave / end of chain. Then, MOTU conifig is set to Internal Clock, correct?
Also, MOTU banks are set to A = TDIF, B=TDIF, C=ADAT (C just defaults to that, and I don't touch it)
At this point, if DM24 is on, I begin to hear the out-of-phase noise thru my monitors (which are turned down low).
But, when I go to DM24's Digital menu, and try to select Word 44, it says Clock Not Found (or something close to that, not at the board right now).
Is there a certain boot-up order I should follow?
Could I be dealing with a bad BNC cable at this point? I mean, it should be I just switch the DM24's clock source from Internatl to Word 44, right? The cable looks undamaged, but I can't think of what else could be the problem, unless I'm just missing a step in config...
Thanks again for the response, please share your thoughts based on above...

Success in the wee hours! Too tired right now to go over everything, but summary is I think it was a combo of bad cable connection, and not looking at proper switch settings. Thought I had switched the DM24 properly, but wasn't the case. If DM24 will be clock slave, make VERY sure you have moved the termination switch ALL THE WAY to the right (see manual pg 50)
Thanks again for the feedback, it was enough to make me go back and trace everything to find the problem. Very much appreciated!!!!
This is my first post to unicornation, and want the operators to know I am very gratefull they have made this site...I am sure I'll be a frequent visitor from now on!!!
