By the way, I really wasn't trying to give you a hard time. Unfortunately, the tone of voice seems to get lost once it ends up being nothing more than text on a computer monitor.

So ... to take this one step farther ...

Since I'm only doing audio (no VI's, MIDI, surround sound, etc.) - AudioDesk 2 should be dandy for me, right?

It looks like it also does some of the beat mapping, etc. like DP.

In actuality, AudioDesk 2 doesn't suck then! (?)

i didn't literally mean it sucks. i actually quite like it. i was just trying to figure out what its shortcomings are when compared to DP (in the opinion of actual users, not specifications).

the big UI enhancement that i see in DP is the "Consolidated Window" feature.

i'm also hoping that DP will let me bounce my tracks in more file formats. anyone?

Basically Dp will let you bounce in MP3 with the lame engine installed..here's a link

http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/22570

(Installation is explained in the read me)

Also WAVE, AIFC, AIFF, Next/SUN, Apple CAF (Core Audio Format)
wich is surround)
Mpeg4 doesn't work out of DP, and the response I got from Motu
was it's a problem on Apples end that needs to be addressed.

All of the above formats are exported using Apples Core Audio.
So it's possible that Audio Desk can export in these fomats as
well.
I'm not sure of that as I don't have Audio Desk installed right now.
Anyway, hope that helps.

sweet, cause the version of audioDesk which shipped w/ my 828 (v2 w/ the latest patch for tiger) doesn't seem to wanna let me bounce in any format but sd2.

(someone, please explain if i'm missing something. i read the manual but its highly possible that i'm an idiot. maybe even likely...)

You're not an idiot.
When you're in the bounce to disk menu,
does Audio desk show format as part of the menu?
If so all you have to do is click on the menu to see if there's
any other options.

That menu offers me the following fileds:

Channels
Resolution
Import
Source
File Name

So, I guess I'm not missing anything?

If there's not format in there then I guess you're not missing anything.
SD2 might be it.
In the SoundBites Window can you select a file and export to a
different format from there?
If so it's just a 2 step process Bounce to disk in SD2 then select the
bounced file in the soundbites window and export to a different format from there.
..You're right there's always a •••• load of stuff to learn.
I'm pretty greatful for a forum like this, I learn something new
everyday.
