No. MOTU have been doing webinars for almost five years now, paying one of their employees to teach DP and Performer Lite. Regardless of whether they're documenting the webinars online that's money invested in the DAW, not their hardware.

Even now DP11 is not the oldest version of a DAW that's happened in recent years, Ableton Live 9 was almost 5 years old before 10 dropped. It's likely that DP12 is a rewrite of certain core parts of DP, to either get Atmos sorted or to maybe finally get track/plugin automation with V-Racks etc.

I have alternatives, I just like what DP does so I stick with it.

I think everyone who uses a complex multi use DAW like DP will be somewhat disappointed no matter how recent the upgrade is. DP11 did get some serious updates years after it came out, but not everyone is going to like or use them. I find Clips useful, some do not. Even with orchestral people not all of them have a use for Articulation mapping etc.

Personally there's hardly any "new" feature they can add that I would probably use, more like improvements to existing features, which do not move the needle in terms of new users. So we can expect some new FX or maybe some instruments, Atmos etc. stuff they can entice other DAW users with. I do hope that stability and improvements to existing features are priority though, for instance the Content Browser needs work, same with Clips, and Clippings.

It's easy to point to a few "neglected" features that exists, but aren't very robust. As you say, those won't draw new users, but I think making most of those things functional again will do a lot for usability.

It's a good idea! Not only would it work for a certain era of sounds; it would be a light-weight thingy for mockups. With a layers approach, it could have categories for attack transients (a la D-50), synth and single cycle loops (again, a la D-50, and many others), as well as kind of more bog standard rompler multi-samples/keymaps. OTOH, since such things are available via 3rd parties, they might not want to exhaust development resources on it. But I'd be there for it.

I should make it clear I have complete faith that MOTU will release DP12 at some point.

In all honesty, I'm very happy with DP11.34, so the delay only allows me to hold on to my upgrade fee a little longer.

Yeah, I played the original in cover bands in jr. high. Thought it was kind of silly back then, too, but the girls who followed us liked it. Was there really any other reason for playing in bands when we were that age?
