error/ "takefile disabled for recording"

"an unexpected error occured with one of the record enable takefiles."
"the takefiles have been disabled for recording."
everything seems to be fine except that i can't record anything.
any ideas?

rawk on.
first of all, make sure your takefile is where it is supposed to be (ie. not a cd-rom). if it's in the project's audio files folder (the default), go to that folder in the finder. select it and hit command-i. there you will see the read/write permissions. set it to read/write if it isn't already.J.B. wrote:how does one check the permissons on the takefile folder?
could be, though i doubt it.J.B. wrote:could it be a problem with the disc?
next things i would try are••¦
1. repair permissions.
2. check the read/write status of all the folders leading to the audio files folder. (you could change them to read/write for the entire disk, or check "ignore ownership")
2. try changing the takefile to another location, preferably another disk or partition.
3. see if the problems exists for other files to rule out a corrupted file.
good luck.

That sounds very extreme, and overkill unless proven necessary.
I have this error pop up every few days or so. I have an underpowered 800 MHz iMac with 384 Mb RAM, so I do not expect my music software to work miracles given what I'm running it on.
My best protection against this error is to save after every little thing that I do in DP, then wait a few seconds before taking a new action.
When the error crops up, it is often sufficient to do a save and/or close/reopen the project.
At other times, I simply re-click on the output and/or input for the disabled takefile.
In other cases, I discover that I hadn't upped my studio size under the configurations. Although DP now seems to automatically adjuist in many cases, it still seems to help to recheck the studio size now and then if performance is getting sticky or errors are popping up that disable a track.

or check "ignore ownership"
checking' ignore ownership' seems to have done the trick.
the pull down menu now says read and write where before it was greyed out.
i confess i don't know what it means but i suppose that's a query for a different forum.
thank you blue, for taking time out of your day to help me out. much appreciated.
